  6. He was a veteran of several failed relationships. Though he never would have admitted it to himself, it seemed that each girlfriend had taught him less than the one before her. It was impossible for him, at this time in his life, to decide if he was rushing through women like a drunk through martinis, or if there was something more deeply wrong with him.

  7. Its when your from the war or some that is a soalder

  8. I tanked a veteran today. He totally wouldn’t move his car so I tanked it over the edge of the road. Then I found out it wasn’t his car and I actually didn’t have a tank. I was in my living room measuring the height of the shag carpet. My dog had vomited on the carpet a month before and it was the day to measure.

  9. I am nothing but a veteran. I am nothing but a broke down old man, wearing pins all over my army green coat, wishing i had been born in a simpler time. It’s easy to wish for something new when all you can hear is death.

  10. the veteran looked around all the young people at the remembrance parade. He should be glad that they came at all, but he just kept think what did they really understand about sacrifice

  11. Veteran soldiers,
    Not much older,
Than the children of those Halcyon Years.
    Gazes like ice,
    Hard and bright,
    Cold, cruel and clear.

  12. Have I never showed you this?
    To my shame,

  13. The poppy field were in full bloom. The gray, tired man walk through it looking up at the soft blue sky. How could something so beautiful and uniform come from something so ugly and chaotic?

  15. Good morning, dear Morning. Why are you so overcast?
Have we just not hibernated, and have we not survived a
deep freeze? It snowed, remember? The snow melts now,
    but still you cry.

Good morning, dear Morning. Wash away all the
dirtiness from your footfall. But I, being poor,
have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams
under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Thank you, Morning, for my perfectly toasted bagel, unburnt. Thank you, Morning, my coffee is a potent medley of caramel and grinds. Dear morning, will you not open your clouds
and wash away the darkness on my heart?

    O captain! My captain!

  16. He limped down the sidewalk, a handful of sunflowers for her brushing against the pavement. He did not know how long he had been back. He knew at some point he had been thrown in jail. And now he was out in a world he felt he hardly knew, searching for his love.

  17. I am a veteran at this video game. I know every cheat code and level off by heart. But why do I find it so hard when I’m stuck in the video game with no way out?

  18. John sat straight up his heart pounding in his ears, the room spinning. He swallowed hard and looked over at the clock only to see that it was far too early to be awake. He was not going to be able to get to sleep again so he got up and headed to the kitchen.

  19. Our fathers were war veterans and we are so proud of them. They had a really tough time during the war. One was badly injured and the other a prisoner of war and yet they are such lovely kind men with the wonderful ability to forgive.

  20. Clad in green and standing like a metal rod has been fused to his spine. The eight graders were in awe, intimidated by the 19 year old who came back to visit his teacher.

  21. i feel like a veteran in this world
where the new is always coming
unfortunately i am the wide road
and they are the wheel which rolls above me
    consume over and over again
    one’s always missing
    one’s always come to buy
    i am that poor veteran

  22. Veteran affairs. A veteran at having an affair. This is old hat, it’s all I’ve known. You come you see you move on while still there. Still there but gone.

  23. “…and this is General Kanus, a veteran of the Korothlian Scurge,”
The warrior bowed nearly in half and, still, his massive frame towered over me. “It is an honor to meet the daughter of Hrothgar,” he said, his words rumbling from his throat like an earthquake.
    “The honor is mine, ser,”

  24. Veteran fencing is not full of veterans. It’s often populated by people who are massive novices, people who have come to fencing from no exercise at all, or from watching their children fence. They are eager, scared, excited, and participating in something fairly difficult for the first time in their lives. I love them.

  25. I am proud to have my family home this Christmas, even more so, seeing that my father is a war veteran, who severed his country with distinction. welcome home daddy.

  26. Sherie had done her apprenticeship under the guidance of her mother in the 1970s. By the time she ripened at the age of eighteen she was a veteran of Kalgoorlie hotels. She ran her business from room number thirteen at The Imperial. The hotel had been used by convalescing soldiers after the war and not much had changed in forty years. Positioned on the first floor just above the bar, the room smelled of old men and stale cigarettes. The pink chenille bedspread, not to mention the significantly damaged bed, were way past their best. But Sherie knew number thirteen was a lucky charm and she had been pulling in over a gee a week for eight solid years.

Any observer may have concluded that Sherie’s success was due more to her ample bosom and willingness to entertain even the most bizarre request than it was to her room number, but she would have none of it. Which is why, on a rainy thursday morning, she was banging on Mr. Patchett’s door like a lunatic.

  29. my old man is not as strong
    as he was but tell
    me he is strange when
    he stares too long
    at the limping
    veteran
and asks if he needs help
    and god so help me
    you will wish
    you had gone to war
    instead of
    dealing
    with his little soldier
