I looked at the old photos from my photo box. It was small, blue, with green and white decorations around the sides. It was of my son in a limo. He was only a baby, and it was a quick shot before my friend went to London to see a play. He looked so happy in it. So small, so innocent. A tear ran down my face. The memories of him as a child flooded back
Melissa dropped her backpack onto the floor of the pub in Ireland. She was wearing a baggy red sweater and blue tight jeans. Her hair was long, curly and tied into a low side pony tail. She looked up and saw herself surrounded by large, rugged looking men. She slowly gripped onto her backpack again, and inched closer to the bar slowly as the male's gazes were fixed intently onto her.
If I could remember every detail in my life I'd be a very happy girl, indeed. I'd be able to analyse my mistakes in such detail, I would repeat them less today. I'd remember all the special moments and taste the lips of past lovers. I'd never need anyone today, because I could live off of such vivid memories for all time.
It was Saturday night and I was wearing my best dancing platforms and short, polka-dot dress. I danced my way to the dance floor, and there I saw him. He had a little fro, and brilliant sideburns which defined his jaw line magnificently. He looked over at me winked, then shuffled closer....
I let out a faint cry when I heard the news. Another reason he gave me not to trust men. Tears poured from my eyes and I bit my quivering lip. I was in despair. He had ruined all that we had and now, now what. He left me with nothing. I turned to see my younger sister covering her mouth, she looked florescent white from the shock.
I slipped a mint into my mouth just before I walked into the office. Today was my presentation and I felt tired and entirely divorced from reality. The mint was strong, slightly fizzy and as I took a deep breath, I felt prepared to give the board my all. Let's hope it's good enough for them.
I waited in line in the canteen. It was then, that I had a moment. Admiring the business that filled the small space. There were girls laughing, singing, and hugging. All different types of women, mingling. They seemed innocent and happy, and it daunted on me that this would soon be over, in a mere few years, whatever we've shared as girls will be over and we will be set free into the world.
As the flame engulfed all that was in it's path, we were mesmerised. Vibrant and glorious. I stood closer, wanting to be drawn in. I could feel the heat that was pushed from it sting my face, my skin was hot and began to slowly burn. I could feel it. I wanted more. I wanted to get deeper in to the rich flame of this magnificent torch.
