  19. Girl Scout. Sport. A certain way to behave. The sport summer camp on the bank of a great Siberian river. Pine trees. Wooden buildings. Four meals a day. By the end of the season I was one and a half the size I arrived. Plus, I wasn’t vegan back then.

  20. I went to sleep away camp when I was 12 years old. It was one of the most interesting and memorable points in my life. I made connections with friends whom I would have never spoken to otherwise and I ahve certainly gained a new perspective as to how relationships work. Networking is one of the forefronts for modern American development and with the amount of things that I’ve learned, friends that I’ve made, and objectives I’ve completed; camp certainly shaped my teenage year.

  22. When I was younger, I loved to go camp with my mom and my first stepfather. I would always bring extra batteries for my Gameboy Color (it was purple) and I had this teeny booklight that I could plug in and play games. I also liked reading in my tent with my flashflight.

  24. I’ve never been to summer camp. Actually, I went once, when I was ten or eleven. Several of my classmates were there, all of them male. I had had trouble making friends, since I had just switched to a new school, and — suffice it to say, it was not a good experience. I spent most of my time getting splashed in the pool.

  26. The first night we camped by the lake, a bear came and stole dusty’s food bag. Like an idiot, I chased it. We chased a bear once and we survived. How many people can say that? It was just a black bear but I read later they are the most dangerous. They’re the least likely to stop eating you if they start. Terrifying. But we survived and I believe that bears are gentle, just like the stuffed teddys.

  27. The crickets kept me awake that night. Normally, the sound of the night’s creatures is comforting to me. I used to fall asleep with the slider door open; listening to the darkness. It was comforting. But that night, at the camp, the crickets were deafening; like the roar of a plane’s engine; the boom of speakers at a concert; the thunder of road construction. I’ll never camp again.

  28. Was too curious to see
    What’s under the flame
The stench of sin rots a forest
    And kills another whore
Why must i say this again?
    He killed another whore
    Innocence no longer relevant
We’ve got killers on our hands.

  29. So, I camp my thoughts here for the night… Unsure of what is to come; but that is the pure beauty of it.

  30. my favorite summer camp is this place called ESF. I’ve been going every summer for 8 or 9 years! The counselors there are nice and helpful and are my friends most of the time. The camp has a rule that no one older than 15 can go to the camp, and I have an extra year because my birthday is late so yay! I think that the youngest you can start working there is 16. I don’t know if I’d enjoy working at camp, because I’m not sure that I’m so great with kids, but I would love to continue going to ESF for years and years. My counselor for the last few years is named Marc. He’s around his early twenties or so and he goes to NYU. We’re friends on facebook, but we don’t talk too much outside of camp. I like talking to him because he’s funny and he’s never mad. This is great because when you’re at summer camp, the last thing you want to do is have a counselor yell at you to do this, do that. Those kinds of people are a little hard to have a good time with, unless it’s their way. There are a few counselors like that, but most of them are super nice!

accent rolls off your tongue. It
makes my heart race to places I never thought
    possible. “What accent?” you say.

  36. The morning were chilly, but fresh. The sounds of water splashing against the shore. Bird starting their morning chants. Snuggled in long underwear, sweatshirt and you. I love the forest standing protective around us.

  37. I only went to camp once, with my friend in 9th grade. Before that, I thought I didn’t want to waste my summer at a camp. After, I was upset I’d wasted my summer anywhere else…

    Mattie
  38. The night sky was our blanket.
And the oppressive heat and overwhelming soul tie between us.
Shoving its way down our throats.
    Strangling us from the inside.
    Camping is surely a delight.

  39. I always loved camp….the marshmellows…the sing alongs. the campfires…the cute girls…camp was my dream place to spend the summer….that is until that fateful summer….when my whole world changed.
