  1. the shining bulbs fell from the tree like snowflakes. they hit the floor and exploded near my bare feet, peeking out from my Christmas-themed pj’s.
“what, what do you mean?” asked, my voice shaking.
“sh-she can’t be dead.” i turn on my heels, the shards of the ornaments sticking into my bare feet. i ignore the pain and run away, tears blurring my vision, which causes me to knock into the refrigerator.
i wake up in the hospital later without remembering about the previous occurrence.

  2. I hate decorations. They come in ever such silly colours and often celebrate events which are unworthy of wasteful cash spending. Plus, they just get thrown away and create waste. I suppose that they can improve feelings of festivity mind.

  3. i went to the video store to buy decorations, turns out they don’t sell decorations there. who knew? so i continued on my way to the party store, and when i got there, i forgot what i was decorating for, so i left. the end.

  4. She disagreed. Of course she did. She said I had no taste. She said that with those drapes, the place would look like a hospital room. And she was right.

  5. The bunting is still hanging from the top of the shelf. It looks forlorn and tired. Martin would pull the decorations down but he did his back in reaching for the plug socket during the Jubilee coverage.

    E.P. Hantera
  6. I turned the key gently and entered without a sound. Wow, I thought. Angus went all out. Balloons, streamers, baubles and bows. Even a pinata hanging from the flourescent bulb in the middle of the room. So much trouble for a party in my honor that I would not be attending.

I grabbed a bottle of champagne and left.

  7. small town
    sparkling bright
    with lights and ornaments
and half way across the world
    a decorated soldier
    misses home

  8. Decorations. Many people add decorations to their reality. They add lies and embelishments that blind them and stop them from seeing and knowing the truth about their life. Decorations are pretty but we should always avoid them.

    Moni
  9. i hate decorations. especially for insignificant events like parties, birthdays. someone is born every single day, probably every single minute. i don’t understand why each year needs to be celebrated, as if it was an achievement. because it’s not. waking up every day, now that’s an achievement. I guess it could serve as a marker, but i don’t remember my first birthday.

  10. Every year we take the time to dust off our memories and hang them back on the walls. It’s Christmas, or maybe it’s Halloween, or maybe it’s the 4th. In any and every case, we take the boxes out of storage and we wear them proudly. Marking our unique ability as humans to hold the inane in such high regards, as if objects themselves live as memories.

    Sarah Gregory
  11. For memories and the atmosphere.

    Jessica
  12. Decorate me in diamonds, decorate me in pearls. Fancy silks, pashminas and drapery. Decorate me with make up. Decorate me with bruises.

    Zoe
  13. describe mood and celebration. set a style and set a mood. whether it be happy, sad, magical, or classy. Explore your options.

    Nicole Matonak
  14. There weren’t many, just lights, just the faint glow of the walls and the black gleaming furniture. I put my bag down, feeling everything closing in, the bearded dragon in the cage staring at me neutrally as she came alongside, bending down, the brush of her touch electric at my shoulder.

    Bethany Root
  15. Christmas, Halloween, Easter, or any holiday always requires decorations. They make me home feel homey, and my children love to help decorate. It gets us in the holiday mood :) Shopping for decoration post holiday is always fun too.

    Bayleigh
  16. The decorations filled the entirety of the room. Beautifully. Elegantly. Caressing every corner of the crooked room. The room’s past darkness had been lifted and was forever dressed in light.

    Christopher Capewll
  17. The decorations lined the mantle. The snow fell outside, but the hearth was warmed by the fire simmering in the fireplace. All was right. Another year down. Another year only days away.

  18. I love Christmas decorations. So bright and colorful. They really distract from the caterpillar infestation that plights our house. Most people can’t even tell we have furniture that isn’t just caterpillars — I don’t even remember if we do, actually. I don’t remember anything before them.

  19. they fill your house and give an idea of who you are. maybe it’s why they are so hard to choose and coordinate. yet it’s an amazing way to express yourself ain’t it

    Laura
  20. decorate my life in a million different shades.I am red; compliment me how you like. take me there, baby; make them cry and scream and bitch with jealousy. I’m not the kind of girl to give a damn anymore; i’m not the kind of girl to let them see me cry. Tears of a thousand different elements. Kiss them away and make me smile.

    Kim
  21. I like to decorate things often. Although I don’t have the motivation to do it most of the time unless it’s absolutely necessary. For example, if I had to do a project and it needed to be decorated then I guess I’d have to do it. But I love being creative and I usually need a reason to be because I have so much ambition but no motivation to do so.

  22. I tried to work to seem as the perfect element of decoration. Full of useless service, not too bright, but still very much needed for those who spend their lives throwing money away on such decorations.

  23. In April it is said
    that decorations for Christmas
    Have no business
    not being in boxes
    in the basement
    but still
    why not leave them up?

  24. Did you ever stop to consider the personal decorations we insist upon loading onto our bodies each day? Start with underwear. Then clothes. Add jewelry and BAM! Mother Nature be damned.

What about the beauty of our natural bodies?

Have you ever visited a nudist colony? I’ve seen pictures. And I guess, the ugly truth is that our bodies aren’t always so nice without the decorations. For some, instead of clothing ‘optional’, it’s clothing ‘optimal’.

    Ella Lussuria
  25. Every corner of the room. From the ceiling to the floor. She giggled as she went, like a little child. It felt like Christmas, in the middle of October. She could hardly contain her excitement.

  26. Decorations are a way of making the impersonal, personal. They allow an individual to create something unique. A decoration can be a physical body for a memory, one that you can keep forever. A reminder of a time shared or even lost.

  27. I adorn the roof of my mouth with mistletoe
Let the tips of crisp leaves scratch and prick
I sequin the web between each tow with pastals
My art box gaping wide like a blaspheming mother’s child
And each eyelash, curved towards the sun
Dusted with cocaine as I stare at my reflection
In the hologram of my credit card

  28. Decorations were hanging on the wall. It was very big and very tall. Mr. Peter didn’t notice me there at all. Silently, slowly still hanging up there on that wall. With my feet kicking and a noose and all. Give me a break and a chance to fall. Don’t let me down soft let me take it all.

  29. Decorations are something that allow us to make a home our own. Every persons taste in decoration will be different. Each decoration that is placed within a home will have a tale behind it, a personal memory tying it to your life. Decorations allow us to make the impersonal, personal.

  30. Christmas is the best; I love decorating the tree (almost better than opening presents). Each ornament is specific to a time, a place, and an important memory. The hut on the top left made out of wood is from the Philippines, a place I barely remember as a child. The yellow and purple, maybe some brown santa, from my preschool days in New Mexico. Stuff made from Grandma’s collection, and other’s all important to my story. All on one life tree.

    Sarah
  31. Decorations. I always think Christmas, putting up the tree along with the lights and different colored balls…can’t spell the ‘o’ word so I wont even try :p. Fun time of year though, always get presents and time with the fam. Fun fun fun fun fun fun fun.

  32. Decorations filled the house. It was New Years Eve, and Sammy was distracted from what she came here to do. Silver banners that read 2013 strung along the dark empty hall way. “Where is everyone?” She thought to herself before she entered the room. It was then when she realized her world had turned upside down.

  33. Decorated my hallway for company. But they don’t show up this year. I sit in front of my Christmas tree alone, wondering how it all went so wrong. One too many drinks at last year’s function and now I find myself sadly, completely alone.

  34. decorations are very nice especially at christmas time. my favourite are the fairy lights, they’re so pretty and shiny and create a sort of ethereal haze of festivity and cheer. i love decorations, sometimes i like to wear them on myself like bracelets and shit. they’re great really. i have lots of bracelets.

  35. they are so pretty, i like them. i mostly like the birthday decorations with all the balloons and the banners and stuff. i also like the wedding decorations so much, they are so fancy. i like colorful things, i don’t like dull, boring decorations.

  36. I strung the decorations on the Christmas tree that I bought just for my boyfriend. We had just moved house together and I had insisted that we celebrate Christmas with his family as well as Hanukkah with mine. He was re-lighting the candles from previous nights.
“I’m not going to kill someone if I re-light these, right?” he asked me, a smirk on his face.
I shook my head, “No one has to know. Besides, when you move halfway through a holiday, you have to re-do some things,” I smiled.
He handed me a box that was laying beside the menorah. “Call it an early gift,” he told me.
I took it, smiling and blushing. I opened the box to find a simple glass ornament with the Batman emblem on it. I laughed loudly, “Really? Batman? A little short handed, don’t you think?”
He shrugged, “It’s for our first holiday spent together in our new house,” and he hung it on the tree for me.
    (True story!)

  37. Decorations can be pretty. You can put them anywhere. You look at them. My mom likes decorations. She really likes winter decorations. I used to help her put fall decorations on windows. I really enjoyed that. For some reason, when I think of decorations I think of Asian people. I don’t know why. It’s kinda a long word, I guess.

  38. As I hung the bulbs around the tree, I felt my heart sink in misery. All the pretty decorations, the family members, and the most lively baked cookies and there still wasn’t anything to fill the void in my heart. What was missing? Was it love? No I have plenty of that. I didn’t need a man to make my life better, so why was I feeling this way?

  39. It was my fourteenth birthday and I had told my mum that I didn’t want the house to be decorated for my party but did that stop her no way. She went all out with the decorations.

  40. They’re something that puts an identity on the room, whether it is a simple bookshelf or a sturdy armoires. Sometimes, they also lights up the room with past memories, like a polaroid taken during a school trip pasted on one of the walls. Or,they’ll lit up the room with your fairytale dreams, fairy lights hanging or a vintage-canopy hanging over a bed.
