  2. The girl wandered through the farmer’s market, basket on her arm. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear as she bent down to examine the fruit on the table before her. She lifted an apple up to the sun, it’s shiny red casing casting a glare in her eyes. She put it down in front of the man across from her. “This one is good,” she smiled, drawing her wallet from the bag at her hip.

  7. All my life I’ve hunted the white-bellied beasts of the sea. But it’s never been enough. My prey was always too slow, too weak. Prizes were never big enough, risks never as severe as I would like. It’s frustrating, sitting here without a way to test myself. To entertain these dark thoughts. Who knows what would happen if I changed prey type from fish to… Something else.

    Surely you can understand my feelings, though. And keep this chase fresh and alive for me.

  25. Fresh out of the refrigerator was a leftover casserole. I lifted up the plastic covering and smelled the thawing meat, the dry cheese. A spin in the microwave could soften it a bit. It would do.

    Jason was still taking a shower as I ate. We were supposed to be at Lucy’s recital in an hour. I didn’t quite understand why he couldn’t shower in the morning or at least some time that didn’t send me into a panic about whether or not we’d make it somewhere in time.

  33. A lot of things are fresh… like foods. I really like bread. It’s really good because it smells so good and it’s so warm… but there’s also stuff like “fresh” deodorant, which is really bad because it smells like baby powder, and I really think that smells disgusting… but whatever. Let’s talk about food. I really love fresh green beans. My mom used to grow them in the garden, but now she doesn’t garden anymore and that’s sad.
