  2. She was the only one who drove. The only one with a mobile phone, which kind of defeated the purpose. The only one with a sat-nav. Perhaps it was because she was so young by comparison, but she didn’t shy away from gadgets and technology the way the others did. She embraced it.

    all over the place.

    tedious decisions.

    missing their extensions.

    an injector,
    an accelerator,

    This contraption of sorts…

    I think it’s mechanical,
    but it’s missing a cord?

    cleaning my house,
    is the worst chore.

    Items of novelty,
    I don’t know why,
    I even own…anymore.

  9. Listless people lift that black remote, that gadget that added not one but twenty-five pounds to their useless, lazy frames. Useful as it seems to be, it adds to the uselessness of the human society.

  10. a mechanical device that provides a function you are not able to do for yourself. like a robot that is invented to supply someone with bone marrow their body cannot produce. NO, not a robot, a person – but this person is a clone, not unique flesh and blood because they are modeled after you. a gadget of your own cells and skin, someone with no real voice. in a world of disasters and castaways this perfect person has become your life raft. but not because they have something nice to say, or they are comfortable to be around – no, this person is only important to you because you need something from them.

  12. Defined as “a mechanical contrivance or device; any ingenious article,” gadgets usually refer to the whatsits or doo-dahs we stumble across in shops when we’re not looking for anything in particular. But ingenious articles… surely every article is ingenious. Every human, certainly. I’d like to think so. I’m a gadget (:

  14. My eyes seemed to pop as I looked at the mountain of technology before me. Gadgets of all shapes and sizes, whirring clicking and flashing, a feast of temptation. Hands twitching, I walked to the nearest table. There was a small orb, golden and shining. But as my fingers were inches from it, the sound of footsteps came from behind me. My heart stopped, eyes darting for an escape. But the door had opened. Too late.

  17. The ultimate gadget. One that allows me to teleport from awkward situations with the flick of a wrist. Genius. Trademarked. Wait, maybe escape isn’t the answer?

  18. just like robots, uh God i hate all these mechanical, scientific words. Ew, they make me cringe and just… ehhhhh. I don’t even want to write about them, they’re just so ugly.

  19. He held the gadget in his hand, staring at it and flipping it around as if it were the first time he had ever seen it before. Then again, given his current situation… maybe it was.

“So… what… does it do exactly?” Timidly, the teenager asked, looking back up to me with those same startling sapphire eyes he did before. I straightened a bit, finding it odd that my hypothesis was correct about him for once.

“It…” How do I explain what it does to him? And without raising up too many more useless questions to go with it? Try as hard as I did in that moment to think up a method, I really had no clue. It was like explaining to a cave man what a television was.

So I gave the easiest, simplest answer I could possibly fathom to give, “It… shows you alternate outcomes based on the decisions you could have but didn’t make in the past. What things could have been, if particular circumstances and choices were made.”

Greyson stared at me with sheer confusion before looking back at the palm-sized contraption once again. I had expected a ‘how?’ or ‘why would someone make that?’ from him next, but no such questions came. Instead, I saw something set in his eyes, in his countenance. He stared at the thing with an increased sharpness I had never seen before.

There was something he wanted to see. Badly.

And I couldn’t help but wonder… what could that thing be, to cause such a disturbingly grim expression on this soft, timid kid?

  20. gadgets are interesting things, which generally allow us to be lazier as human beings. doing multiple jobs for us, combining everything we need into a selection of compact devices. I think gadgets are great, iphones, cameras, kindles, whatever, but the minimisation of human interaction and actual manual work is sad as anything.

  23. Captain Spingo slammed the gadget down on the console. He stared at Eddie, the starship’s electronics specialist. “You told me this data frammistammer would get me the coordinates for the the Bligmak Froonisplandt quadrant. All it does is beep.”

Eddie gulped and looked down to the console, where Spingo had placed his electric toothbrush. It did not bode well for him, 27 parsecs from Base Station Pluto, if it was discovered he’d lied on his résumé.

  24. “Oh that looks….um….amazing!” I tried so hard to sound convincing knowing that it was darned obvious that the new toy my boyfriend had bought me was more for his amusement than for my pleasure! Sheesh.

  25. A gadget is a small technological object that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty. Gadgets are invariably[citation needed] considered to be more unusually or cleverly designed than normal technological objects at the time of their invention. In the software industry, “gadget” refers to computer programs that provide services without needing an independent application to be launched for each one, but instead run in an environment that manages multiple gadgets. There are several implementations based on existing software development techniques, like JavaScript, form input, and various image formats.

  34. A gadget is a tool. But not like regular tools. It’s not a hammer, it’s not a screwdriver; it’s a gadget. It has use. It has purpose. It’s usually invented for convenience. When I hear gadget, I usually think of Inspector Gadget. The cartoon. He’s full of surprises, as most gadgets should be. Gadgets should be not only portable, but accessible and useful as well. A perfect example of a gadget would be a handphone, because it fulfills all the gadget requirements. It’s handy and beneficial for communication.
