  2. it hits the sky like it wants to leave a trail of destruction, when actually, it’s just replying to what the thunder has said. i don’t think it means anything bad, i think it’s just trying to express itself. shooting through, without a care in the world. not half as bad as thunder, is it? he started it.

  20. Lightning cut across the sky coloring everything in shades of blue and purple. The air felt charged with unreleased energy from the approaching storm and all the while the two boys watched from the balcony in a daze of fright and awe.
“Did you see that last one? How it lit up the entire city?” said the eldest, giving his brother a soft shove.
The younger of the two shuddered.
    “What’s the matter?”
    “I don’t like lighting.”
    “Scared?” teased the first.
“Of course not,” answered the youngest with empty bravado. “But it seems silly to be amazed at something as fleeting as light. I am much more intrigued by the darkness that envelops it and the mysteries it conceals.”

  26. lighting flashed. I dodged the bullet of white light. It turned to glass in the sand. My right ear was singed by the heat. But I didn’t care. I was on top of the world. Below the storm raged and the sea rushed endlessly at the beach. But i was above it all. I could live forever watching the world get torn apart.

  27. The lightning flashes all around, as I run like mad to gather those in danger. It’s my first (and hopefully final) experience with triage medicine. What was happening? It didn’t matter. I had to get them all to safe ground before any type of detective work could be done.

  29. he said he knew he would die young and that he would die by being struck by lightening. He was dressed in his worn orange toweling robe at eleven in the morning and the late summer sun was streaming into the little top floor flat. She knew she wasn’t going to marry him despite the precipitous intensity of the passion she felt for him and the new life in the croft that he offered, all components of her dreams, but sometimes something deep inside her took over and made decisions she didn’t understand. He was dead in five years, not by lightening, by heroin. She could see his green wide lost eyes all her life

  30. Fills the air with a bright and brilliant burst of light. The air tightens and bursts in a clash of noise that burns the air around it. The sky begins falling with heavy rain and the smell of ozone fills the air.

  35. The lighting struck and nobody was sure what to do. He was just a small boy, nothing special. Not nothing special in a bad way, he was still loved by many. But he wasn’t the kind that shone up the room. He was just a boy. That was the worst part. It made everyone realize — that could have been any single boy I know. Think of all the people you know who don’t shine up the room. It could have been any one of them. What if it were all of them? Everyone is special. Everyone shines once they’re gone.

  36. It boomed in the distance. The sky was dark and I saw a tree before me. It was kind of cliche, how the tree managed to line up with the lightning. Regardless of that, it still scared me. I tried to run away and yet I felt like I could never escape what was happening.
I wish I hadn’t ran away from home. I wish I hadn’t set out on a night like this- I should have listened to Al Roker.

  37. thunder crashed like a million gongs, and lightning lit the sky. I screeched in terror but had to muzzle myself to avoid detection from the evil shadow lurking in the room. silence. silence. BOOM!!!!!!

  39. He was a storm, flying across the room, he didn’t care I had offered him my best scotch. He saw the way my eyes darted up Kimmy’s legs and the tight little way she smiled. He came out of the armchair like lighting and I flinched at the first sign, flailing my arms up to my face.

  40. I had a cat named Lightning when I was a pre-teen—a sweet little tortie. She got hit by a car in the middle of the night, and my parents knew about it, but told me she ran away. A friend later told me what really happened; I was devastated. I didn’t get another tortie till nearly 45 years later. She looked a lot like my first. I named her Little Light.
