They all have the same basic shape, yet they can be found in an array of colors and sizes. Each one can hold something meaningful, and some can be easily bent and manipulated.
They once held my dreams shattered, my divorce in filed perfect order.
They once held my child’s first writing, her little paper hearts all full of love and joy.
They once gave proof of birth, of school, and in the end, what are they?
Little pieces of metal.
The paperclip crashed to the floor like an anchor crashing into the sand. I looked up and into the eyes of the great stranger in front of me. He bent down and grabbed my paper clip with such gentle hands, hands that i wanted to grab me like that.

I just used a paperclip to fix the speakers in my computer. Sort of MacGyver-esque you may say. Going way beyond its normal paper-holding capability. My own Mac Genius bar, all in the convenience of a twisted wire. Who knew?
Isabel
paperclips hold things together.
i’d like to think of myself as a paperclip.
i hold many people together, as they do to me.
i’m sure you understand what i am writing.
i’m a sturdy, reliable person who will be there for you even when your falling apart! :)
Bella
haha they are funny. I used some at work today to clip invoices to the folder. they never work as well as staples and seem to fall off and lose papers at the most inconvient times. the best part about them is that they are flexible.
PollyAnna
awesome. they hold paper products together. mmm. they taste bad when you put them on fillings in your mouth,. you can unbend them and make them into shapes. thats always fun. this is my first oNE WorD thing. pooop. did i do this wrong// i sure hope i did.t
Ari
i think that paper clips hold everything together.
like its kind of like a good friend. someone who holds everything together.
a good friend who can read you like a book and never doubt you for a minute.
i think paperclips are great double meanings.
Bella
There are many things that pile up, some of them office supplies, some of them more elaborate. But the paper clip is by far the most clingy of all supplies that can be held with one hand clasping, like an effervescent mule ascending into the bowels of the sky. I never knew my uncle’s mother but I did receive her paperclips at the funeral (if you know what I mean)…
Ari
I typed it on regular printer paper,
‘Cause I don’t buy the nice stuff, like you do
-The kind that you’d paperclip together
Because a staple would rip precious holes
In such precious sheets of bark.
I didn’t have any paper clips..
And I wish I needed yours
I wish I wrote it on paper worth clipping
That I’d have,
Were you here to give me yours…
I read it at your funeral
With my staple fascined tight
And though my words were tangled up in you
The “whole of it”
Was anything
But right
Cause I wasn’t supposed to be standing anywhere
Giving a speech to anyone
Without some scented, golden obnoxious squares
And some fucking green polka dotted paper clip…
I wasn’t supposed to be standing anywhere
Giving a speech to anyone
Without you.

Paperclips are good for holding things together. Most people use them to hold paper together but you could hold lots of things together with paperclips. Maybe some type of food? Like pasta. You could hold pasta together using paperclips. That might work. I don’t know, I only have 60 seconds to come up with this.
They were scattered all over the floor, tiny needle sharp stationary accessories that threatened to give her an impromptu acupuncture. It frightened her. She sprang from her feet and onto a chair. They wouldn’t get her! She would survive!
“i thought i left him a bunch of paperclips,“jessie mumbled under her breath. She grid her teeth,“damn it!“just then she saw her p.g. belt being tossed somewhat beyond her,and to the left.
“yoo-hoo,powder puff,dear,you seemed to have forgotten something,darling.”
Where are the paperclips when you need them!? Every single time I am in desperate need of a paperclip (having run out of staples) to bind pages upon pages to meet the deadline in about ten minutes, I have to venture out of my dormitory to hunt around for paperclips (or staples) among the cash-poor college populace!
paperclips are important to some people so use them. they are very helpful too. Use the paperclips to hold papers together and take them off
Tori
they are bendy and have 3 curves, they hold together paper and come in different colours. i use to have one on my shoe lace that was black and white. i liked it. we have too many at work and they are everywhere..babies could choke on them..i use them in the gym to tie my hair back sometimes
Hannah
i like to tie you up and put things together in a tiny space clipping paper and clipping everything through a metal fuse we connect life to each other and then we go on clipping some more and more and more
blim
Paperclips are wonderfully useful objects. They hold your papers together. You can also string them together and create chains. Perhaps you would like to make a paperclip bracelet? Wouldn’t that be a nice thing to give or get for Christmas? Or cheap…
She linked each one together, her tongue sticking out and her brow furrowed. She took great care with each paperclip; each one had to be perfectly placed. Each one had to contribute to, not inhibit, the masterpiece.
Paperclips are metal and have an intriguing shape to them. It’s as if they are never ending. The pattern is a sort of figure 8 occasionally accompanied by little silver ridges along the length of the clip. They are practical to many people

Lovely little pieces of order that hold our world together. Can’t get by without them or the paper details of my life would slip and jumble into meaningless piles of information
Cullen Bird
well they are so fancy, for no work they have any good use, they are just beautiful and they exist for just being there, i never use them well.
Reza
Nearly every time, and I mean like ninety-nine out of a hundred, that I pick up a paperclip I find myself unwinding it and trying my damndest to straighten it out. This often begins unconsciously and only comes to my attention about halfway through, at which point I become determined to get it straight this time. However, there is always a curve or a kink or a short end that I can’t get to line up with the rest. Paperclips shouldn’t feel like metaphors.
what people don’t know about me is my obsession. with paprclips. they also don’t know that paperclips helped me poke the guy i hate with. and then poke my ex-bf with. paperclips complete it all
Lynea
My son loves …loves paperclips! Who knew I would be introduced to them again. Wait..I don’t think I ever really “knew” paperclips before. They are messy and they land all over the floor. I spend more time picking them up then using them and for this I hate paperclips
i love paperclips. the clippy thingys and the how you can make them into angels and stuff. i have purple paperclips and i really like them . my friend shanika has multicolored ones, too. i <3 them. clip
Sera
once you bend them, they’ll never go back to being the same. kind of like hearts. only perfect once.
Anna
I like making paperclip jewelry. It’s so fun, especially if it’s the colorful paperclips. Those are really cheap-ish, though, and they bend too easily.
I used the paperclips to stab tiny holes where his eyes were in pictures. I straightened them and let my tiny weapons rip his face to pieces. The eyes are the window to the soul, you know.
We just used paperclips to hang up Christmas light in my dorm room. All the while, I poked myself in the eye several times, fell off a chair, and busted my lip open – it’s ok thought. I got my Christmas lights up, and I’m satisfied. 60 seconds to tell you that I’m awful at decorating. Baller.

I have a lot of paper clips in my desk. Not a lot as in “The world’s largest collection of paper clips,” but in the sense that I never really use them. They are in my desk though, just in case I ever do need one.
wheeler blogs.
Sometimes my life feels like a box of paperclips—all tangled together and unable to be grabbed at easily. I wish I could untangle certain aspects of my life as easily as I do those clips, but they seem to be too intwined and definitely not agreeable to being separated.
Andie
something i use to hold together papers. sometimes, children put paperclips into a necklace. theyre not very useful.
hold things together, keep things organized. can be launched with a rubberband, used to poke when straightened out, chained together for a necklace, used as an imaginary fishing line and hook. useful as tools for prodding in tiny gaps and scratching objects within them.
Ryan
They are sitting on the desk. Silver and gold. And there are pliers there too.
“Hey,” Jillian says. “Pass the paperclips.” She holds out a hand.
I have to hand one over to her.
She takes it and begins to bend it with the pliers. It twists until it doesn’t hold itself anymore. Until it’s useless as a paper holding clip.
Until it’s something brilliant and beautiful, like all the other fucked up pieces of metal she’s putting together to make a necklace with.
“Hey,” Jillian says, “thanks.”
Ah, paperclips….. They are very useful things…. I used a giant paperclip to hold my art project together earlier today…. and you can also bend them and make shapes, or use them to unlock a locked door…. O.o
They all have the same basic shape, yet they can be found in an array of colors and sizes. Each one can hold something meaningful, and some can be easily bent and manipulated.
metal, small, bends easily, holds papers together, magnetic, plural

Silver and bent
Paperclips hold
Them together
One breaks free
And they all fly into the sky
Falling down
