The plane writes its path across the sky, textured in clouds like a white crayon. We stare on the playground wondering where it’s going and where it’s been and the people up there can’t even see us.
the reflection staring back at me isn’t me; it looks like me, same hair, same awkward side-part, same bumpy red skin and squashed mouth and unfeminine eyes. but she is flat, a shade of the person I am. and inside I know I am different
The plane bounced up and down, and I thought of that image of being stuck in a jello cup. Bouncing, but trapped on all sides by a sea of Strawberry Jell-O in the sky, never to fall up or down or even go forward or backward. Just suspended in time until I found myself teleported to Paris, or California, or wherever I was going while feeling the terror in my chest every time turbulence strikes.
Daniela
She wasn’t ready to go on the plane. When the announcement came to board, she hurriedly stuffed the things she had taken out of her tote bag, and which her daughter had scattered all around the departure lounge. She stuffed what she could into the bag, lifted her up and went ot the plane, but it wasn’t until she was in the plane that she realized that she had left her cell phone behind.
