  15. In fourth grade we all had to learn to play the recorder. I was really good at it despite my inability to read music. The class all told about my incredible talent…too bad I received a failing grade!

  19. the daunting task of learning an instrument comes with an ability to use creativity in that way. I hated it. Mostly because I sucked at it. Strangely people don’t understand how the simple act of learning to play a recorder can be apparently hard. Maybe the mental block I had against the horrible noise prevented me from enjoying the music in any way and thus never being able to play one well enough!

  25. a recorder is a type of musical intstrument i know little about. i’m pretty sure it’s a wind instrument. i’ve never played a wind instrument. well that’s a lie i have but only briefly. i would imagine it to be grey. or brown. with a white tip at the end where you blow into. cue innuendo. maybe it has holes?

  39. It’s an instrument. The fourth grade–we all got them. just imagine: a bunch of little kids in rows, one teacher trying to tell us how to make it happen. How to finger the notes, how to make the sound come out. music is magical, even if it’s in a silly instrument like a recorder.
