I walked out along the sandbar and stood above the surface of the tide—walked the waters like Jesus, love the world and all its parts.
Navigator
I sat on the beach staring at the sunset, the sand under my feet, the sandpipers doing their job, all was calm and peaceful.
Eleanor
i tumbled
on the sandbar
as my feet
splashed
when meeting
the water.
i yearned
for cold sand
and salt water
under my feet.
sometimes
sturdy.
sometimes
pliable.
the closest thing
to feeling
like a child with
play-doh under
my fingernails.
here
i can set her free,
my naughty
seven-year-old
with golden eyes
and whimsical dreams,
she’s always
wanted to change
her name
and grow her hair
and stay awake
while reading
books about
hidden
treasure chests.
i see you in the sea
i feel you pounding
hard on my chest,
having a hissy fit.
oh, how i’ve missed you.
oh, how i need you.
Sandbars are usually dangerous places, but tonight, the sandbar is exactly where I’m going. Not the actual sand, though. Hate that shit, gets in between my toes and everything. No, the sandbar I’m going to is on a dingy corner that barely anyone really goes to anymore, with a surfboard above the door and pink neon lights that shine that very name. “The Sandbar”.
Sandbars are usually dangerous. It just so happens that tonight, dangerous is exactly what I need. So, to the sandbar I go. Not the literal kind, though. The one with the surfboard over it and letters in bright pink neon that say “The Sandbar”.

The boat is stuck on land still in the ocean, almost home but not free. The sailors slog out, sinking in.
There was a sandbar in the middle of the river.
It was barren. It was there. It looked like something.
But it is temporary.

Scott and I swam out to the sandbar, removed our suits and felt each other up.
going to bars and
raging like tarzan
i open the ocean
and drive a new car in
stars only fall when
god’s not an option
