  1. sombre. uh i dont know what that means. should i? im not sure? Well when i see the word sombre i think of the work sombrero. As in the spanish word for a big hat. I would like to become fluent in spanish one day. I think i will. Maybe sombre has something to do with sleep.

  5. Quiet. Withdrawn. A small girl, siting in a dark corner. What has happened? One can only imagine, or assume. Is it a death? Is it her father? Are there things happening in her small world that should never happen to a small girl?

  7. Sombre brings to mind the calmness of night. The quite breeze that blows through the fields that bring to life the imagination and quickens the body and soul to want. Sombre is a peace that is found herein, within us all, should we only seek it.

  11. it was a sombre day at the funeral, with everyone in black and veiled in tears. I, however, was not as sad as I appeared to be. I had a personal reason to be at this funeral today, and that personal reason was cold hard money. The deceased was my father, a middle class man.

  13. sombre is a feeling that happens to one when they’ve finished the very last of their party drinks. Say you’ve had a long day, the wife is yelling at you again, and you’ve had it with your out-do-em neighbors who just got a new truck. You feel sombre. You are ready to nap. I like to think that when one is sombre, they are at true peace with the feeling of sombriety. I just made that word up now.

  29. Is this English for “somber”? It sounds like a Mexican hat. Some are somber, some are not. We all must strive not to be, for to be sombre is to be English. And to be somber is to be in a sad state indeed. Why would anyone want to be somber? It’s not a nice feeling.

  31. somewhere there is
    a silver platter
    with your name
    engraved in
    the metal

    and somewhere there
    is a child lost
    and waiting
    for you to
    come home
    from the
    war but
    you’re
    too
    close
    to
    death to find home

    sombre is her name

  32. Sombre is a rather lazy word and brings images of drunkards along the side of the road. He is sombre – she is sombre. But it also sounds a lot like some jargon for a wind instrument. You know, like, ‘That flute has a lot of sombre!’ And anything that ends with ‘bre’ has a mexican connection to it.

  34. Well, i got the same freakin word again.

Sombre… not really anything new here… still thinking it’s some kind of ancestor of depression – a spanish ancestor… wish I had a dictionary nearby… maybe I’ll get a new word next time.

  37. the man with a sombrero sits atop a lazy summer day with the weight of the balooning children under his skin. he is mexican and the city is full of smoke. the bills are late hand the people are angry. Where are our tomatoes? they shout, daily as they bike past. And everyday, he shouts back because there is nothing else to do.
