  3. Oh my that gray sky is a sore on the eye. The people on the street stare so sullenly, so sombre into space. Did I step on his toe, her toe in the stiletto? Who knows? I don’t.

  5. it seems like today sombre is a often misunderstood word. I personally think that sombre sounds like a spanish word, but i do not understand it entirely. Maybe it’s the time crunch that makes me misunderstand it, but all the same i do know that i do not understand it like others as well before me. The End.

  7. when I think sombre, I think of shadows and mellow music. I picture myself in a bar sort of setting, with the light filtering through the dusty air, and some old geezer is playing a guitar in the background. It is a quiet, reflective scene.

  11. Sombre? What does that mean? I know it’s spanish but I didn’t finish my spanish class and obviously we didn’t get to this word before I dropped it. Does it mean the same as somber? Actually now that we’re talking about spanish it makes me want a margarita.

  13. Sombre describes my thoughts. Pessimism is my forte. Give me a situation, and I can pick out every single thing can go wrong. Call me the genius of morbidity.

  15. The feelings of the town were small. The town didn’t even feel alive. Most places I’ve been had a feeling that something was going to happen there sometime. Here, I felt as if something had happened, something big. something that had left the town empty.

Stepping onto the ground I felt it slide.

  17. Serious as the grave one may joke about me. I hardly think it funny at all. The expression on my face was hard and serious. I think they could sense the level and anger.

  23. I don’t speak that language. I doubt its english probably espanol which I took for 4 years and still don’t know enough to speak conversationally. One day I’ll know enough to serenade pretty boys, and sing fluently, and know what words like sombre mean. Even if I don’t want to

  27. He wore a hat that made him smile.

It was black, yet covered in shiny litle pastel puff balls. It was his Uncle’s. The one everyone tried not to mention, but who was his salvation.

His Uncle who would smile at him when he was “bad” and had done something creative, like tell a dirty joke at the Thanksgiving table.

It was his Uncle who said playing the piano was just as important as selling shoes.

It was his Uncle who had a tear in his eye when his mother said he’d never amount to anything. That tear told him maybe, just maybe, there was kindness in this world. Maybe all the daggers were wrong.

That hat, had laid on his Uncle’s bar in the basement for years and he would pop it on when he visited and dance around, and then his Uncle would sneak him a beer.

And now it was his, and here he was in Mexico, saying goodbye in his own special way. No funeral for him, just a sombre sombrero and a Dos Equis to say goodbye to the man who saved his life.

  35. It happened so quickly. One moment she was happy, she had not a worry, not a problem. Then the phone rang.
    “Hello?”
The reply shocked her. She dropped the phone. Her mood went from gleeful to completely sombre. He was gone.

  37. I do not know what this word means. Perhaps it is British for somber? I am not so sure, but it is possible because of centre and theatre and all that and such. Somber, if that is what it is for Americans, is grief without emotion. Everything is inside but soon it’ll be let out. It’s all out in the end.
