  12. I had to have that glass of water. It was sitting there, begging me to drink- but I couldn’t. Not with her watching me like this. It was driving me crazy: the clear, sparkling perfection that sat silently within the careful plastic cup. Whenever I looked toward it, my heart raced, and then I looked over at her and it slowed. She could literally keep me from a basic human need, and all I could do was submit to it. I began to think of waterfalls, streams, ponds, lakes, oceans, and my tongue felt so dry I wondered if I could survive this terrible thirst.
