  1. I think perhaps the best thing to do in the morning is to watch the tide come in. Or does the tide go out? I think that being in the boat all day leads to forgetfulness, which is why I no longer remember.

The tide is the best source of my strength. It guides the boat.

  2. As I type this, an Axe deodorant ad depicting a man who sprays water out of his armpits like a hose is playing in the background. A tide of perspiration, if you will.

  3. The tide was going out quickly. Deciding that the kayak was going to be too heavy to drag in by myself to the faraway shore, I called to my boyfriend who was swimming not too far out to pull me in. I was happy to live by the beautiful beach where so many beautiful things reside- even the tide, which usually creates a terrible ripcurrent.

  4. The tide doesn’t roll, but it overcomes. It seeps past all the underlying filth, and the gnarly intertwining bed of the ocean. It takes over everything in its path; head-on and no mercy.

  26. People don’t always pay attention to tides. An undercurrent close to low tide can make someone drift out into the ocean and they won’t even realize it. If they aren’t careful enough, they can end up too far out for them to swim back (although they’d be pretty dumb if they weren’t paying attention for that long) and they will drown and there will end up being a 3 day search for the person and it will be all over the news.

Whether this powerful force was an illusion or not, the sheer intensity of the walking powers was enough to send shivers down one’s spine. Why would they walk here?
