  1. transportation.
the metro. You see a lot of different faces, and it’s interesting to see what people are carrying, wearing, etc. Sometimes i see who will meet my gaze, and who will hold it the longest. Sometimes there are people who smell delicious, and sometimes all i smell is pee and the lack of deodorant.

  2. The weekend is drifting away, the afternoon threatening rain, and in the distance, storm clouds gather over the sea. A gale rises up and rattles the balcony doors, as the cat runs to hide under the bed. I stand looking out, imagining, disappointed, the plans that are now forestalled. I open the sliding door and pull closed the drapes, so that they swirl and lift in the breeze. Turning, I choose some acoustic Indian music, and it fills the open spaces of the house, harmonizing with the symphony of the gathering storm outside. In the kitchen, I set a deep cast iron skillet over the heat and sift fresh ground spices into the sizzling oil. The warm aromas of cumin, coriander and ginger permeate the air. I add onions and red lentils and leave the curry to simmer as I sit by the only fire I shall lit that summer and read aloud a story of a young Indian girl who was married and came to America and fell in love with her husband, as the cat, venturing out from under the bed, smuggles next to me on the sofa, and my husband brings me a glass of fine white wine.

  16. If I had a means to transort to another universe, I would do so in a heartbeat. My new universe would hopefully be a place filled with wonder and excitement. A place unfamiliar to violence, anger, hatred, jealousy, hunger, poverty, depression, starvation, or death. People, nature, God, love, happiness, joy, music, laughter, beauty, and kindness would be all around every person. No one would ever be sick, or alone, confused, unhappy, or afraid. People would put everyone else before themselves, love would flow like a great river from the hearts and mouths of them all. I can imagine this all in my mind, and if only this message could be seen, desired, appreciated, exaulted, treasured, protected and shared by each and every one of us, then life could really be changed forever. If we could all promote one another’s happiness before our own, imagine what we could be! To all be full of positivity. What a wonderfull world it would be!

And so she went.
