  2. I don’t think I’m very clever. I know other people, like my mother, that seem to be very clever. She can come up with clever comments on about any subject. Not me. I have to think about things for a while before I ever come up with something clever. My sister is also someone who appears to be quick witted.

“Wait, are you splitting the bill?”
“Of course i’m splitting the bill.”
“Oh come on, pick up the check.”
“Why would I pick up the check?”
“You just sold your 3 millionth record, you’re multi-platinum status. Pick up the check.”
“Don’t you look at me that way, not because I have money now doesn’t mean–”
“You know what, here I’ll pay for it.”
“No, we’ll split the bill, 50/50. Here, take my credit car–wait, where’s my wallet?”
“F*ck you, not this again, you clever son of a bitch.”

  7. The imp shuddered with joy.
“Can you not answer my riddle?” it said. Its voice sounded like broken glass.
“I cannot,” replied the adventurer. “But I would like to ask you a riddle in rebuttal.”
The imp was intrigued by the challenge. “So be it.”
“What,” began the explorer. “Do you and the Devil have in common?”
The imp could not answer. He had not heard this one in his millennium-long life. Never before had he been stumped in such a way.
“Allow me to give you the answer,” he said, watching the struggling imp. “You shall both reside in Hell.” In a flash of steel and sunlight, he swung his sword down onto the imp’s surprised countenance.
‘How clever’ was the final thought that ran through the head, before it was cleaved clean off.

    “Shut up.”
    “Why?”
    “Just.. don’t. I can’t…”
    “That didn’t help, did it?”
    “God, I hate this.”
    “I know.”
    “… I don’t know what to do.”
“I know. But I needed you to know just…”

  10. Inventors are clever. They make toys and electronics and stuff like that. Benjamin Franklin was an inventor.

  11. clever he was not; he had forgotten to look in his rearview mirror as he swiftly pulled into the next lane, grandiose ideas about car chasing and all spinning through his mind. who could blame him though, when he was being pursued by one of the most dangerous mafia boss ever? still — the speed does not make you outrun mistakes, and this one would cost him dearly.

  12. …You think you’re so smart. All of you. But you don’t know anything, really. You’re just a bunch stupid people masquerading as scientists.

  13. He told me I was clever. And I thought that was a really lovely thing of him to say to me, since I didn’t think I’d ever demonstrated any reason to believe I was clever. He didn’t tell me I was pretty or funny or cute. He said “you’re so clever” and I don’t know about anyone else but I think that’s a much better compliment to give a girl.

  14. It was a clever plan to leave the party early.
Later on, they started arguing and fighting.

  15. So clever with your language and subtle gestures suggesting an entirely different idea than what your words relay. Why is it you’re so crafty, and why can’t you say outright what you mean?

  16. My mind spend round in circles as if it’s working to gain clarity.
Time is almost up and nothing seems to click in place.
    Click.
    Clack.
The sounds pats on and on as if turning as if it’s life depended on it…

  17. Being complimented, “What a clever girl!” from a young age may not be the best in the long run. It may boost confident as a child but it will result in an adult whom will always be seeking compliments for confidence.

  18. Nimble with hands or body; skillful; adept.
Resourceful, sometimes to the point of cunning.

  19. She could wrap men around her finger like yarn
String them along like puppets in a show
Read their hearts like an open book
    But for what?

  20. Like a fox, she was clever and cunning and manipulative. She was calculating and deceptive and sly.

I loved her. I loved her so much it hurt. I loved her, even when she had used me, used that love, used it to her advantage. She had broken my heart, but I couldn’t let go. She had broken my heart, but I still loved her.

  21. Clever is what I thought I was, when I sent that text. I thought I knew what the answer was going to look like, to my question. But when it finally came through, it looked nothing like how I envsioned it, and I guess that makes you pretty clever in your own stupid fucking way.

  22. I used to think I was clever but I was wrong. I am an amateur in a world of amateurs. I don’t think anyone is actually a true master. Maybe a few people are but I don’t think that most of us are.

  23. There once was a old clever owl. The owl was named mr.owl , mr owl lives in a tree that is also very old.

  24. She was clever. At least, that was the first thing that Melampus thought when he saw her. It was also to be the last thought that would ever run through the poor man’s head, as her sword swooshed through the air and made brief contact with his neck as she quickly cut through it. He didn’t know how it happened, and he didn’t see it coming at all. A painless death. How nice for him.

  25. the fox furs dangle with some semblance of life
vixen is not a word i would’ve have thought of.

  28. You have to be really clever to win a game at chess, checkers, mancala, and much more other games if you are going against someone really experienced.

  29. You have to be very clever to win a game at chess, checkers, mancala, and much more other games if you are going against someone really experienced.

  30. A clever little girl knew not to touch the iron because she knew she was going to get burnt

  31. The clever lady found out a way to make plastic out of fruit.

  32. I am clever at times. It is nice to be thought of as clever. When I grow up I want clever children. However, I don’t want them too clever. They might outsmart me or con me or something and then I would have to discipline them and that is no fun. I hope that cleverness will be in my bloodstream.

  33. Having high grades doesn’t mean that you’re clever, and vice versa.
Many shallow people don’t get this.
I’ve been telling myself this while everyone around me has been telling me otherwise.
Maybe it’s been also bad on me though.

  34. Alexis was trying to be clever and beat her brother Jason at chess, but she couldn’t find the right closing move. She had several chances to win earlier, but she wanted to truly and completely defeat him in the most humiliating way possible. He was her younger brother, after all, and she owed it to him to show him how harsh the world could be.

  35. “Ha, real clever..” I said as I watched my partner hack into the system. I’ve been with this pack for a long time now. At this point, I don’t think I want to leave. I finally believe I belong, this came be my home. The computers, the mission, the disinfectant pine tree smell, and the awkward smiles of my fellows workers finding home too – it can all be home.

  36. He was so sly. His dark blue eyes would get squinty and he would put on this face. He would look so pretentious and he thought he was being clever all the time. That’s what got me attracted to him in the first place. He was so much me.

    M.C.
  37. He was too clever for his own good. He saw a hole in a wall, and wanting to explore it, he built a drone, and lowered it into the cavern. What he saw was amazing, so he wanted to explore for himself. However, he got trapped underneath the shelf and no one knew where he was.

  38. The teacher marched up to my desk with a speed akin to that of a horse having just been stung by a hornet, slapping a sheet of paper down like Zeus casting down a lightning bolt. “You think you’re pretty clever, huh?” she barked.

I stared at her. “I don’t know what you mean.”

She jabbed a fat finger at what I now recognized to be my math test. “I don’t tolerate cheating! There’s no way you got all the answers correct!”

“But isn’t that kind of the entire point?” I asked. “To get all the answers right on a test?”

  39. he thought he was being clever, and that would be his downfall. clever people — the ones who actually are smart, thinking ahead and thus, cautious and analytic — clever people were oftentimes aware that they could trigger their demise at any wrong turn.

people who, like him, simply thought they were clever? they thought luck was behind them; that they could ‘play luck’ and win everytime, because they ‘knew the rigs’. they knew nothing.

  40. “Clever girl,” he said, and then the entrails were ripped from his body.
