  2. I won’t be ‘it’. she moaned. While being responsible was all very well, this was the third time she was to be the designated driver this week. Just watching her friends slobbering in the rear view mirror made her never want to go out again, but as her best friend said, reasonably, ‘We’re not on antibiotics.”

  3. I walked the in valley of the shadow of death and took a look at my life and thought why am I sacrficing myself.

  5. Appropriate word for Easter. The sacrifice of Jesus for us.

  6. Served up on a silver platter,
    accompanied by mother’s finest china
falling prey to decorum and high society
and signing away years with two words.
There are six after me, but as the oldest
it falls to me. For better

  7. There aren’t actually a lot of things that Joven considers a sacrifice, outside of the usual time for studying and using his computer – but damn. Sometimes he has to do what he has to do, really. There’s a show from the Dance majors and he kind of really wants to see that girl again, because it looks like neither of them have that much time left on campus. Sad, really.

  8. Today is Easter Sunday. Friday was a day to reflect on the wages of our sin. Today is to celebrate the washing away of that sin by the Lord Jesus Christ through his sacrifice on the cross. He was nailed there thinking of you.

  12. “Go on, I know you want it,” I’ll tell you every gathering, every time we both reach out for the same thing, with a smile.
What I’ll never say, Take that last piece of my favorite cake. I love you.

  13. The only ones who can truly make a difference in this world are those who can sacrifice everything they have. Some have sacrificed their possessions. Others their families and friends. Some, their humanities.

You’ve already lost most of those. And now, you’re about to sacrifice your own life. This is as far as you go. You were useful, you think, even if only a little.

A horrified face catches your attention.
A fellow soldier. A friend. You recognise them.

    It’s too late, though.

You close your eyes and smile as the titan bites down.

  14. jesus and sisters
    not wholly in belief of
    each other, and the biscuits
they leave on the white kitchen
counter still have two egg yolks
and a cooling cup of coffee.

  15. i told her not to make a sacrifice for me. it retrospect it was such a small matter. the classic love triangle of two best friends, and a boy. that boy just happened to choose her. there was a look in her eyes, a look of knowing but also selfish relief and feigned innocence. she is my best friend but she would never make a sacrifice for mine. my pain was no sacrifice compared to their happiness, even it was temporary. and my pain, my sacrifice was a blow inflicted to my entire body. my body and my heart darkened and wept at their selfishness and ignorance. but without that pointless sacrifice, i would not be the person i am today. good or bad, i was still standing.

  16. I remember a stone alter, but I think that was the heroin,
I remember a knife, but I think that was the syringe.
I remember a cruel and merciless priest with my own face.

  17. If her life was the only thing she could offer in place of Mariana’s, then she’d sacrifice herself in a heartbeat. For her, she’d do anything.

  18. the terror lambs bleeding
    naked breasts wait between
    the blackest alter
    while the sweat drips down
    her slick neck
    into impending doom

  19. More often than not, Astrid believed sacrifice was a necessary thing, a hero’s duty, for whatever reason. A way to defend the village, help friends, avert a calamity, do what’s necessary to survive.

    Eric Hunter
  20. “You became my sacrifice in your absence, but don’t worry I have cut larger parts of myself off than you before. ” She whispered to the tombstone at the very farthest edge of the cemetery from the gate. The words were meant for her brother, the one she lost to a war that never actually began, but they were heard by her best friend instead, the one who killed himself to save her.

Her friend, Andrew, now dead and in something often referred to as Heaven, bent down behind her as she wept for the two most important people to ever be in her life and wrapped his nonexisting once comforting arms around you and sighed, “You will be with us soon enough. Then no one has to cut anyone else away ever, because lovers love for eternity and brothers are family even when blood does not claim so.

  21. We all sacrifice things in our life at one time or another, but there was one sacrifice that should be remembered for all time. And that was the sacrifice of our Lord.

  22. It hurts like a bitch. You have to give something up for something you may not really want at the time. You have to give up friend time for homework but at the end of the semester when you aren’t failing you will actually have time for friends. It’s all worth it in the end.

    SummerSchaub
  23. It is only right that those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of their country should receive the highest honour of that country. It is sadly rare that this happens.

  24. Spill the blood.
I’m indifferent to the passage of time.
    In the dirt.
    Kicked up.
    Clouds rise.
    And the dust –
it settles down oh, so fine.
    Sediment, grime, it all combines.
    Moments captured in time.
    Meaningless.
Flip the switch. Lift the helmet.
    Breathe in space.
    Lungs freeze.
    Eyes glaze.
    Subzero sacrifice.

  25. Hurt. Anguish. Defeat.

Everything about this situation was wrong. Sacrifice was supposed to be willing, wasn’t it? A conscious decision? Then why did this thing, this terrible horrible thing, why had it come to pass? Why did his heart feel as if it’d been ripped out and ground to dust?

  26. She knew she was being selfish but she couldn’t help it. Emotional attachment to inanimate objects came easy to her and her puppets where no exception. Could she really give one away to a six year old girl, even for her birthday? It was a sacrifice she didn’t think she could make. Or could she?

  27. “In the end, we all know Bri paid the ultimate sacrifice–laying down her life for the benefit of those she didn’t even know. She will sorely be missed as a soldier, but more importantly as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend to many. Therefore it is my pleasure to present the award posthumously to the family of Brianna—”

    BANG!

There was a large crack that seemed to shake the whole building, and my ears started to ring. Everything was moving in slow motion, it seemed, and people around me started to scream…then I looked to the front of the stage and my heart raced faster than ever.

Senator Granger had been shot in the head.

I grabbed Cat and pushed her down onto the ground as more shots rang out. Why weren’t the bodyguards assigned to be here doing anything? Why weren’t we being rushed out of the room to safety?

    AJ Kenobi
  28. Oh, how I know what it means to have someone make sacrifices for me. Did I ask for them? No. But that didn’t prevent those people from wanting to make them. That’s not the point.

    D'Ette Marceaux
  29. Fitting, I suppose, as I feel the life draining from my fingertips as I bleed through my eyes. Nothing is quite as it seems any more. I guess that I should be thankful, as you have killed yourself more times than I have, but I cannot love you anymore. My ears have heard the truth, my heart felt true devotion, and your false kiss pales in comparison.

  30. I read in the news today that there is a new study that shows men who do not help with chores have better marriages. I shall make the gallant sacrifice for the good of my marriage.

  32. She never thought that’d she’d get to this point
She was so far overboard that she couldn’t think, couldn’t even dream of anybody else
    She was so far gone
    So enveloped in his being
That she would sacrifice everything to be with him
    Her family, her job
    Her hopes, her dreams
All out the window to be with the man she loved
But she would be lucky if he never let her down

    Megan May
  33. It was a sacrifice I was willing to make, and one that I carried out quickly and efficiently. I knew that someone out there would need what I was giving up. It wasn’t just money. It wasn’t just livelihood. It was something that had made me far more functional than the average human being. Something that had turned me into the hero at the end of the twentieth century, now broken down for science a good twenty years later.

I was giving away the organ that had granted me superpowers.

    Belinda Roddie
  34. I knew him. And I knew that smile. Nothing about him was self-sacrifing. All we could do was wait and see what his angle was.

  35. I will sacrifice for those I love. Sacrifice comes out of love, and out of integrity. Sacrifice is central to altruism and to Christianity. Today, being the day between Good Friday and Sunday, sacrifice has been on my mind recently. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice.

    Aaron Rea
  36. In thinking about herself, she realizes that she is not one to make sacrifices. Maybe one day, she consoles herself, she will love somebody enough to give up all her other selfish loves (the way her mind works, how she prefers tea in the mornings, the way she laughs when something seems really, really funny, the perfection of her solitude which, in the end, denotes her superiority above all others).

  37. He stood there in chains as he watched the only family he had left step up to the guillotine in his place. His twin brother Micheal looked at him one last time his eyes full of sorrow. The guard forced him down, and put his head beneath the blade. Josiah looked at his brother, realizing what Micheal had done for him. His eyes got blurry as he watched the executioner send the blade down through his beloved brothers neck. A single hot tear broke free, and fell down his soot covered cheek.

  38. “Kill me,” she said. Her eyes glittered in the darkness, a bright, desperate gleam of emerald. “You have to kill me now. I cannot let my subjects see me and despair. They cannot know their princess as a beheaded witch.”
Amber’s hand shook, fingers curled tight around the bone knife. “I -”
“Kill me!” the princess grasped Amber’s hand and brought the point suddenly to the smooth, pale surface of her neck, which convulsed with a desperate breath. “Amber, now!”

  39. i would like to sacrifice all my life work to my parents and my girlfriend for being a great mentor for me
    n also to my freinds

  40. What would I sacrifice? I have known what love is for only 3 years, but I would sacrifice anything to make that other person happy and safe and whole. When you learn love for another person, you learn how much you would sacrifice for another.
