  1. pageants are not what they seem. for the girl who is standing beside the winner, she will never feel good enough. she’ll wonder what she could have done differently and she will never know she is beautiful no matter which ribbon she gets. i’ve never liked ’em.
years of work to measure up to someone’s standard. and it doesn’t even matter. beauty is never found at pageants.

  14. The pageant queens

My sister had the pageant dresses, but I had the lion costume. She had the coiffed curls, the thick makeup, the glitzy tiaras, and I had the the stolen turkish delights, the 120 crayons left melting on the radiator, the scuffed up mary janes. On picture days, she plucked curlers out of her hair and threw them on the floor, but I scrambled into scout uniforms, forgot my knee socks, and punched out the kids following me on the playground. She never fought, but at night she was the one that locked me out of the room, scratched my name into the furniture, and charged me a dollar per pillow.

  15. A pageant is a competition (usually for women) where people of a certain age dress their finest to impress a panel of judges. Personally I feel this is one of the easiest competitions you can be involved in, as you only have to work on your appearance and strut.

  16. I hate that show on TLC. Those moms are the worst people in the world. Actually, worse still are those mom’s that have ridiculously expensive parties for their kids, and it’s just a veiled attempt at having their own party. What child wants a disco themed party?

  17. An ant crawled up the pages of the textbook, then slipped and fell into the centerfold. The motion drew Harris’s eyes from the details of DNA replication; he watched the ant climb and slip, climb and slip. He tilted the book upwards, but instead of sliding down the ant hung on dearly, determined to keep going to the other side of the book.

(I’m not actually sure what pageant means:/)

  21. “It will be an old-fashioned pageant! The whole school can have parts!” She bubbled with enthusiasm. “We’ll need music, and decorations, and speakers, and skits. Who wants to do the food? There is so much to do before we celebrate.”

  22. pageant: real life study of a young Barbie

  23. A page and then an ant. What sense does that make? Ants and paper is not really pretty at all.

  24. People wearing pretty dresses and others just staring. There’s a runway in the middle, Quite so boring

  25. It felt like a pageant. The only difference is that there was only one judge. But just like any other pageant, my looks were being ostracized, my personality was being picked apart ruthlessly, and my talents were being critiqued by an amateur. Was this kind of relationship worth it? Was my love getting me very far?

    by Cow on 03.20.2012
  26. Girls star in these starting at a young age. They get dolled up and parade themselves on stage so that people can judge them based on their looks and their ability to make them selves pretty using prosthetics.

  31. The pagentry that goes into waking up every morning, slapping on a pound of make up and shoing the fakest smile I’ve ever had is starting to take its toll. I need summer, I need to get out of this depression slump. Its sad when I can’t bring myself to wake up for school in the morning anymore.

  32. Well. We’re currently seeing little people being naturalised into a world where competition is the means for survival, beauty pageants being an example of this sick process. Stop the nonsense. We’ve long left the cruel state of nature discarded since time immemorial; so have an ice-cream and go on a holiday somewhere warm with you’re most interesting friends.

  34. She always hated pageants. The girls there weren’t really beautiful. They all had weak personalities and low self-esteem, with attempts to cover it up with ugly dresses and makeup. Her mom forced her to join the pageants for many years. She had stronger beauty that was not seen by the judges, she had the beauty of a confident woman with a strong personality and natural beauty.

  35. I don’t want to enter! No, mom. No! It’s a firm no! I might be the most beautiful lion of the pack but I don’t ever want to be Miss Lion. Rather Lion King.

  36. i think people put their best foot forward far too often. We enter society without preconceptions about standards and image, only our basic needs. Why compete for attention, approval and adoration when people should be looking after shelter and food for themselves and those closest too them.

  38. Beauty is all that matters. Is that true? Are we all really that superficial now to just think it’s all about the looks? All about the mask that we wear? Who are we really?

  39. I don’t even know why people obsess over this thing. I mean whats so important about how you look? People are so into it and I just. ARGH. Why people. Why? Why would you do that to your 2 year old. They look like a freaking doll right now. Waxing their ‘down there’ already? They haven’t even had enough time to ENJOY their childhood. You’ve practically just stripped it away from them.
