Racking my brain for how to write about this word for a whole minute. I have used this word before but for the life of me I cannot remember in what context. I think it is the core of something. Anti makes it seem like it's opposite, so maybe I'm all wrong. I feel my brain racing in an attempt to grasp the definition, which seems to be fluttering just out of my reach.
She is 63, slightly overweight, average height and drives a Jeep Liberty. Although her brown hair is graying at the roots, her face remains nearly unlined and she does not even closely resemble her age. Her clothes appear to be chosen for comfort and function, rather than style. Her smile is engaging and she pauses to greet everyone she comes in contact with. One would never know she is homeless and desperate. Falling through the cracks of society. Wanting to work and pay her own way, but the system does not have a place for her. Trying to survive on her meager social security and waiting. Waiting for a job. Waiting for her name to come up on low income housing. Waiting to win Publishers Clearing House. Waiting... Always waiting for something.
Obliques. This conjures up an image of a smelly, noisy gym. Working out. Side to side. Working those obliques. Sweating profusely. All in the name of fitness and health. Really? Trying to produce a six pack. Flat stomach. Twising side to side. Feeling the pull of muscle. Are there really obliques under those donuts that have formed a ring around my waist? Obliques. I'm ready!
Delve is to dig deep into something. Whether that be internal, intangible thoughts or feelings, or something more concrete, such as delving into the bottom of my bag for a pen or a quarter. To delve is to go beyond casual searching, but in depth, heart wrenching, soul searching. Not on the surface, not trivial. Real, deep emotion. Searching for something long lost. Jumping headfirst into a project that has been shelved for some time. Delving into history to uncover hidden truths. Reaching deeply for a known, lost item. Or an unknown. Surprise when you find what you've been delving for! Pulling what has been buried to the surface to examine it more closely.
