the torch was bright in her hand as she held it up for him to see. illuminating the passageways, the shadows danced and stretched off the walls almost playfully. she reached out her free hand, sliding it into his. surprise flickered across his face for a moment, but he soon smiled easily just holding on tighter. and suddenly, the mysterious, dark winding tunnels, the cold ground beneath their bare feet, the damp walls and low ceilings didn't seem so scary anymore.
glowing with pride.
glowing with love, see it shining from her eyes.
the way that she looks at you.
the way that she'll smile when you walk into the room.
so happy to have you close to her.
so happy to have you belong to her.
she'll do anything for you, don't you see?
see it in her eyes.
look closer, look down under.
see how she glows when you're around.
heavy, dark. smeared around her eyes, reminiscent of a raccoon, the rings around their eyes. but it gives her confidence. makes her throw back her shoulders, toss her head arrogantly, and stare haughtily at everyone else around her.
smoky? sure. sexy? yeah, whatever.
false?......
beautiful?.....
.....?
crickets singing in the night.
their chirping is distinct
each one can be heard
all individual voices
singing as one
weaving together
to make a chorus
that serenades the walkers of the night.
because those who listen close enough
will hear it all.
deadbolt.
that it what he was, keeping her from springing to action
to achieving her dreams.
he was afraid
demanding
restricting
and he locked the door
leaving her in the dark.
he told her that she wasn't good enough
he made her insecure and questioning.
she could have done whatever she wanted
she could have made it to the top
to be the very highest peak to the pyramid.
but instead here she is,
forced to her knees
crushed
with the weight of him on her back
struggling to straighten.
maybe one day
she will find the key
and she will finally lift this deadbolt
to be forever free again.
traversing the galaxy.......it would be nice to have time to do that.
when there is no structure, everything falls apart. things fall where they should not, people get hurt when they should not. if there is no backbone structure, there will not be survival.
carefully, i approached the stranger warily. i had head about the bad things people can do to a lone little girl who isn't the protected, and can be tricked and fooled. i knew what risks i was taking when i walked straight up to him, hearing him call my name. but i answered his questions all the same, as he answered mine.
we stood and talked, swaying back and forth, shifting the weight from our feet. we might have walked towards one another as strangers, but we walked away like old friends. i was lucky. i took a chance and he was nice. no tricks, no need for protection, and no more loneliness.
so how many more times, i wondered, could i get that luck again?
their policies are like rules, always containing us. shoved in between boundaries, where we are forced to think and be clever. but one cannot be taught how to learn these things. they have to come with freedom and exploration.
one day, maybe they will learn. maybe they will learn and lift these policies.
