They danced around him, mocking him by stretching their faces in weird expressions and making obscene noises. He looked down at the dirt beneath his knees. He wouldn't let them see the hurt in his face that they were the cause of. He clenched his fists and jerked his head up. The look in his eyes stopped one of the men in their tracks. "I will have your heads!"
She couldn't get the idea out of her head. Images swirled in her brain. They meshed together making her unable to distinguish any of them apart. She rushed for her note pad and began scribbling. This was one idea she wouldn't let evade her pen.
She looked around the room at the wafer thin pages that were pasted to the walls. Spidery handwriting covered them front and back. The dim candle light made the words bleed through so you sa both sides on the front. The sentences merged together forming some kind of alien language unknown to her eyes.
He drug the limp man behind a mound of earth. The hole they now resided in was created by the shells that fell relentlessly from the sky. "We'll be okay," the man panted to his silent partner. "We're gonna live."
The lights flickered on in the hot sticky night air. Sweat beaded on foreheads and shimmered in the multicolored glow.
Steam billowed up from the sidewalk as hot rain poured onto it. People rushed pass each other, hurriedly seeking the nearest stoop to escape the downpour. Taxis rushed by, windshield wipers on full blast, rejecting the torrent that bled from the sky.
