The snow here glitters
the rain falls slow
the ocean can't drown you
the streetlights glow
everywhere you ever
wanted to go
inside this little glass globe.
Weaving through seagrass
in moonlit shallows
he makes a new home
in foreign glass
mysterious and marvellous
he is
this tiny octopus.
Fumbling through
the unchartered land
of the veins
in my forearm
I bypass my heart
and trace them
to the forefront
of my mind
and
inside a fort of
pillars of doubt
and bricks of denial
I find you.
X seals the wax
on the envelope
of a letter undelivered
X marks the spot
on the map
of this newfound land
where I find myself
with undeniable you.
Where better to begin
than wherever I see fit
why better to premeditate
than for the hell for it
what's better to ignore
than what logic will permit
Seems perfectly okay
to me.
All dressed up
and nowhere to go;
those days of
blood carpets
flashbulbs
and velvet ropes
are long behind you
discard the
bowtie
suspenders
dress coat
dreams.
The neon sign
is all that’s warming
your disposition.
sunset
fuchsia
and acid green
you bask in its glow
and I, in your
indecision.
They’ll ask you to
'please be seated'
but they'll never tell you
‘it’s time to go’
pity that
politeness plateaus
motivation’s momentum
and
progression’s pendulum
must be tapped
not by glad hands
but an ambitious finger
and
perpetuated by
perennial passion
time to
ask for the bill
discard your napkin
and stand up.
The talons of time
grappling at
gallons of ideas
in an endless ocean
and I'm floundering
in its swells
time is infinite
but it is not mine.
As a vampire at first light
retreats below the ground
As a shuttle breaking free
pierces the exosphere
As a magician at final act
evaporates in a puff of smoke
As the last of a defeated ship
sinks below the surface
I will disappear.
Silver screen
once painted
by spinning reels
static colours
and false light
they now sit
in steel canisters
their edges gleam
like silver linings
I blink
and they take me
