She sat in the corner of the room, pulling her knees close to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. A crystalline tear traces her cheek and lands on the side of her leg. A loud cry fills the room, the sound of the heavens screaming. She jumped in fright and her body began to shake. Suddenly the room was filled with blue light, giving her a glimpse of the bookshelf and the book laying open on her bed.
She let her hands roll over the yellowing pages of her book as the grass curled around her legs. The wind grasped the pages and flipped through them curiously before stopping on a page with a script title, chapter 7.
She smiled before turning back to the page she had marked with her finger and flipped over onto her stomach. Her eyes read over the words but glance up occasionally to the greying skyline.
"Hello, my darling" whispered the voice I had grown to know so well. His breath brushed along my collarbone and smelled rotten and foul. His teeth were gnarled and stuck out in every direction, displaying their rotten patches.
I try to close my eyes and convince myself that i'm dreaming. My eyelids float upwards and reveal to me his lanky hands as they creep up towards my neck. His twisted and spindly fingers brush against my pale skin, his lengthy nails digging in briefly. A shiver crawls up my spine as his skeletal frame draws even closer to me. His petrifying voice hisses, like so many times before, "This is not a dream. This is a nightmare."
Jason and Emily stood near the banks of the river where they used to play as children. He bends over and his fingers fold around a round, flat rock. He straightens his back and, after giving Emily a wink, whips his wrist so that the rock starts skipping over the water.
1, 2, 3, 4.
It sinks into the river. Emily walks over to him and picks up her own rock. She throws the rock on the water competitively.
1, 2, 3, 4.
And it too sinks.
"Please" she whispered as he walked by her, not even glancing at her through his glazed-over eyes. The soft, earthy green had disappeared and turned cold.
She sank to her knees, begging for a reaction, anything. She was left only with the rhythmic beating of his feet hitting the hardwood floors and the memory of the way things were.
Kazuki walked up to the door that led to Ryouta's bedroom. From the room, Kazuki could hear the dull hum of his friend's crying, which mixed with the occasional sound of an object being thrown against the wall. Kazuki knocked at the door and waited for response. Finally, Ryouta said, "Who is it?"
"It's Kazuki. Please let me in."
From the other side of the door, the younger male could hear his friend's sarcastic laugh. "Seriously?"
A tear slid down his cheek as he responded, "Please, Ryo. I'm sorry."
"Don't call me that."
Damian held Noemi close, resting his chin on the top of his head. A tear slid down her cheek and her body began to tremble. Underneath her shirt sleeve, he could feel the lump of a a bandaid. "Emi, what happened?" Her face contorted to that of shock as she attempted to wiggle her arm away. Damian lifted her sleeve upwards and revealed a bandaid. He whispered, "What did he do to you?"
He pushed back her long and dark hair, gently placing it behind her ear. "let's go!" he whispered as he slipped his fingers into her hand. His feet carried them down the hill with grass that faded brown. When they reached the bottom, the land revealed a railroad track that looked as if it had been forgotten for years.
The stunning, black horse reared as it's owner tightened the straps of his worn leather harness. He let out a whinny before jerking his head from side to side in frustration. His owner, who was used to this response from the stallion, attached the harness to the straps of the carriage before petting him on the neck and whispering, "sorry boy."
The car raced along the road, occasionally jumping at a pothole or one of the bumps that went unnoticed when the street was being repaved. Emily rested her heavy head on in her the palm of her hand, her fingers curving along her cheek, as she stared out the window. She watched the decaying trees whip by while she let out a sigh.
