  21. She couldn’t keep her hands steady enough to tie the third knot.

Somewhere along the lines, she had lost her tough, confident demeanor. Just when she needed every bit of self-assurance she could possibly possess, she found herself scared and sniffling, crouching in the dark on the glass-strewn floor. She couldn’t really see what she was doing—hell, she couldn’t really see anything at all. But, she thought as she silently listened for footsteps, maybe it was better that way.

The rope bit into her hands as she fumbled with it in the darkness. She tried to think of what he had showed her all those years ago. She closed her eyes with concentration, and her hands slowly, hesitantly wrapped the rope into the right configuration of loops then slid the loose end through them. Feeling slightly proud, she leaned back, glass creating an almost inaudible crunch underneath her feet. She found that she was almost ridiculously happy that she could do this by herself after all, that she did not need any sort of auxiliary help. She could get herself out of this alone.

She tugged on the end of the rope experimentally and smirked with satisfied with its amount of slack. Now all she had left to do was to stay out of sight and wait.

  26. Verbs. My sixth grade teacher would teach them relentlessly. Over and over and over again. New semester? New set of auxiliary verbs. It’s cruel that middle school students are forced to suffer through hearing about the mundane importance of these damn verbs.

  27. The main force had been stayed out of sight. No one in the auxiliary had seen it for days. But they knew it was there, and the thought gave them strength. Theirs was a suicide mission; they had each volunteered to fill the ranks in this force. So many had stood forward that many did not get the chance to serve. But plenty did, and the time was nigh for them to make their move.

  37. The beats of the auxiliary thundered in the gym, even smothering the sounds of the crowds as they watched the performance. A girl stood mesmerized from the line of the concession stand, not noticing when the young boy who was behind her stepped up in front of her. A few splotches in the crowd could be found with the same shirts and matching banners, waving proudly the names of the different schools. Shouts of proclamation filled the gymnasium with every movement that was finished, injecting the performers with more determination than they had ever had before.

  39. Auxiliary. If only I knew what that word meant. Once I am finished with my 60 seconds, I will look it up to see if my assumption is correct. Auxiliary seems as if it would resemble luxurious. Or as if it would have something to do with a horse because of the “ary” part. If only I knew. My words would be genuine if so. This is just babble.

  40. Confusing and tiring. Always and all the time.
