  1. Her pulse raced.
She had never done this sort of thing before,
But the opportunity was in her hands and was too good to resist.
She had to take the shot,
Or her teammates would never pass to her again.

Marcey grabbed the ball out of the air and threw it back towards the net
And the stadium held their collective breath.

  2. He came bounding back, trying to get his legs over the tall grass as he lept and ran, the grass tickling his paws and his belly, perturbing his one goal: getting the ball back to the lady. If he got it back, she would throw it again, and he could chase it again, through the tickling grass and laughing sunshine.

  3. I was on the rebound from a bad marriage. Eleven years of my life, lost to a pretense, a lie. It came to an end when he came home from work early one day and found me in bed with the cleaner. I told him straight out: I was in love with a machine.

I’m certainly in some type of transition and is this upswing when I figure it all out or do I have to wait for me to land and complete the rebound before I know?

  12. I’m not sure exactly why I did it. It wasn’t a good idea but nevertheless I had to find out if I was brave enough. Turns out, I wasn’t.

  13. The motorcycle tore around the bend. The sidecar tire rebounded off a boulder, jolting the bike and making the grips want to jump out of her hands. To her left, the cliff dropped a thousand feet. To her back, she heard the rumble of the truck, still behind her, still keeping pace.

She leaned hard into the turn, keeping the sidecar on the ground and whipping around the bend. Dust crackled off her goggles.

  14. “I don’t like to admit this, but, my first serious relationship happened on the rebound.” Mike explained. I nodded.

“Wait,” I paused, “Your first? How can that be a rebound?”

“Well… not for me…” He struggled.

“Ouch.” I interrupted, understandingly, “I can see why you wouldn’t like to admit that.”

***Optional line:*** He grinned slyly at me, “It was your mother.”

  20. I thought that I loved him, but now I realize I only got with him because he was a rebound. The last guy I was with took a shot, the ball flew through the air, but it missed, and he was the one to catch it. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe any of it.

  21. Final chance. Final shot. One perfect arc into the reactor’s vent and the diabolical thing would overheat. He tensed, and launched his improvised missile. It bounced off, two feet to the left.

  22. Faster than any of us could think, the ball rebounded off a jutting corner of the room, bouncing once, twice, then flying back toward us.

With a wicked grin, the flame haired man threw the ball off over the railing, watching it sail over the first few roof tops before hitting the ground out of sight. The man at his right, trying not to laugh, clapped him on the shoulder.
“Alright, Finn, I think you’ve had en…..” His words trailed off as the bright red ball came sailing back up the mountainside and was caught smoothly by the skinny boy. Finn held up his prize, grinning from ear to ear.
“Told you.” His pride was blinding. The Foreman’s brow furrowed as he inspected the ball, then his brother.
“What manner of magic is this?” He whispered, more to himself than to Finn.
“Well, it didn’t hit the ground first.” Finn held out the red sphere and dumped it into his brother’s hand. “it hit the wall, then the ground but bounced hard enough that it hit the other wall, then the other, again and again until it worked up enough momentum to come back.” He grinned at the elder brother’s confusion. “Like this,” Finn snatched the ball and turned, quickly hurling the small object to the wall behind them. It hit the wall just inches above the ground, rebounded off the concrete floor then back into his hand. He turned again and grinned.
    “It’s easy!”
“It’s sorcery.” The Foreman grumbled, shaking his head and leaving the deck.

  30. You aren’t considering her a rebound, right, Joel? ‘Cause if you are, I swear, I’ma smack you right upside the head. And not the part of your head that got overly ossified after you got cracked in the hippocampus with an aluminum baseball bat when you were seven, either. No, I’m talking about the raw, vulnerable side of your skull that’s not as calcified, where you keep your dreams and hopes. This gal is awesome. Do not lower her to such a demeaning standard.

  37. Rebound. Your mind automatically goes to the person you fuck in order to get over the one you love. But what an ugly thing to do. The rebound will always be known as the rebound. They’re just an object to you but who knows what in the world you meant to them.
