  1. What a riot.

As if that makes sense. I don’t get it. How can that possibly mean something positive when I know what the word means? The very definition isn’t anywhere near something to joke about and then I see them laugh.

They laugh and they say it. That horribly mistaken phrase. Don’t they get it? Don’t they know. Don’t they understand?

Am I alone? Or am I just the only one who remembers standing on a bloodstained street and feeling the emptiness of time as it sweeps through my very bones, a reminder that I am alive, while others are dead.

    Death. Riots.

    Ha.

    What a riot that is.

  2. Riots. A mess. Anarchy. Feelings. Truth. Is it the only way to get people to notice what is wrong with the world? Why must we wait for riots? Why can’t we simply look around us and think about other people’s dreams, frustrations, opinions, secrets, grievances, emotions… their needs and desires? Listen. Riots are calling out to you, begging you to stop and care. Water is falling, and the dripping is getting faster. A flood is upon us.

  5. There were riots in my head, all crashing and screaming loudly. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get them to stop. Ordinary things of the day did not appease anything, but I eventually found out that the only way I could calm the tornado whirling inside my skull was complete silence, and only that.

    Dying for

    dying for
    riots.

  14. The night of the riots, I was over at a friend’s house. We had no idea there was even anything going on, until Charlie’s mom went out to see what their dogs were barking at. It was crazy, I had heard of city riots, obviously, but it was like everyone in our small town had gone insane.

  15. Riots are crazy, people burn cars. Generally they are about things like the stanley cup or political movements. Most people in riots are very angry and want to destroy things. Looting goes hand in hand with rioting and thats bad for everyone.

  17. We crash landed in the middles of the riots. We knew nothing of their culture; we didn’t lnow whose side to be on. We hid, in the first place we could find. A vast, dark cave by the sea.

  18. Oh man. I really tried to keep my head together on this one. There were upwards of 8000 of us storming the streets of Las Vegas taking all we could from tills and whatnot, breaking the baracades that the casinos had constructed. But I lost it, we all did, we became a slathering mess and most of us were ended.

  19. I turned around, trying to escape the growing crowd that was forming around me. I just felt so trapped, so caught in the riot. This was insane. Nothing would ever get done if all we ever did was fight. Fighting is what caused this mess to begin with and we were so sure that fighting is what would solve it? I was then pushed to the ground accidentally, I’m assuming, and my face slammed into pavement.

  20. there were riots of color everywhere; burning hot oranges, ember-reds, shadows of unholy black smoke curling around the molten shades. an explosion of massive, earth-shaking proportions; a tremble that rumbled beneath her feet. even so high in the air, held up by beams and steel and brilliance, her heart stuttered in her chest. she wondered if she would make it out alive.

  21. There’s as much unease in between my ribs as there is on Wall Street. I don’t know if I made the right choice. I’m afraid.

  22. Jumping and bouncing, my hair in my face and the lights everywhere, the passion is everywhere, the bursts of emotion and music, I feel tight clutched hands and cramped bodies, a sea of power, dancing and spinning and wrecking havoc like wild cats of the night.

  23. Jumping and bouncing, my hair in my face and the lights everywhere. The music is bursting around me, screams and shouts, clutching hands and tight cramped bod

  24. I wish we had riots here where I live. As violent as it sounds, riots often have causes. Rioters are fighting for something, what have i got to fight for? A new apple update? Where is the meaning and purpose for my generation? Not here.

    Anthony
  25. Riots here and across the sea
    Changing lives with animosity
    Here I stand,
    Just you and me.
    We’re losing time
To be who we want to be.

  26. riots make me think of the 70s. It makes me think of the movie Across the Universe when Lucy and Jude get thrown in jail because of the riot. I wish I could have lived in the 70s. To be a flower child would be incredible.

  27. Shouts. Screams. Glass Breaking. Men Running. A fire somewhere. Gunshots. A bench. I hide. The feet run past. Someone falls. Their eyes are next to mine. Their eyes are dead. I close mine. More feet are coming.

  28. don’t do much to change anything. why do riots happen? to change things? because people are in a situation that they can act freely without repercussion? i don’t know but what i do know, is broken glass, destroyed cars and couches on fire dont add up to much. what is it that when people act anything they want, destruction occurs? i don’t think that says very much about the human condition- why can’t people do things out of love and kindness when they know they are acting without consequence, instead of destroy and harm?

    hannah

  30. There were riots in her heart, although the streets (both of her mind and of the city) were calm.

She could easily see the direction that she needed to take.
The woman of her dreams looked up at her with beautiful doe eyes,
and the man of her life looked passed her at the woman of his dreams.

But they both decided to settle.
Because that’s the right thing to do.
It’s the right thing to do.

  34. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Even when a riot is composed of people who are not intelligent, or unwilling to fight for a specific cause, they can cause great amounts of damage in all sorts of ways. Psychologically, or physically or emotionally, damage will be given, one way or another.

  35. It’s a rather symmetrical word, very orderly. The circle flanked by a dot-your-eye and cross-your-tea, and they in turn flanked by the alphabetically consecutive r and s, each showing some curve. A very pretty word. And a near-anagram of a story.

  37. Riots were in Vancouver, and all around the world. Some people fought for freedom and liberty, in Canada we fight about hockey. Burning police cars. Everyone was scared riots would break out the other day, searching the ever-growing crowd for black hoodies and riot gear, but to no avail. We continued chanting “This is a peaceful protest.” might aas well have said “The sky is blue”

  38. Sometimes I believe that riots are physical violence in a city, however, riots can occur in your mind as well. The thoughts that contradict in your head can also be considered a riot. It is sometimes necessary to just accept these riots

  39. There were cries at night, shouts from the street and upon the rooftops. I tried to shut them out, to pretend my world was not collapsing all around me. My prayers were in vain.

  40. I usually associate riots with low income neighborhoods, and usually think of injustices and crimes as well. Although the most common riot I think of is the L.A. riot, I believe there are several more important riots in the nation.
