We shared a drink, each of us sipping from a different side of the pint glass. When I lifted the glass to my mouth, I inspected the imprint of his lips left on the rims: small, scabby flecks of skin, residue leftover from his Chapstick. I imagined how those lips would feel against mine.
They would be soft, and fierce, and would linger with a hunger.
They would taste like beer and intoxicate me just the same.
He considered her a savage, a beast, an inhuman object. She was not something to be admired, but he could not help but noticing the beautiful amethyst color of her eyes and the way her olive skin glowed in the setting moonlight.
She felt that she would never find another man who still abided by the rule of women. A man who would open doors for her, kiss the back of her hand, give her all his cigarettes, or tuck stray hair behind her ear. She felt as though she would never feel a man kiss her more sweetly or more deeply than he had, his breath which smelled of thick lager and his tongue which tasted like cigarettes and 1955.
As the wagon rocked side to side, we knew the adventure to the West was over, the winds were coming, and we weren't making it out alive.
There is you and there is me, the only belief I have is that this is the way things will stay forever. Perfect, in this little snow globe life, pieces falling as they may. Barriers never broken or shattered. Eternal continuity.

The sunlight breaks through the sheer curtains and kisses every part of my exposed skin. Basking me in the most glorious warmth one has ever felt the joy of embracing. I am eternally happy.
