"The Devil's in the details." she says.
"What? What does that even mean?" She ignores the worried look on his face.
"You'll see later. You know, when you're burning in hell."
The thing that they did every summer vacation, without fail, was scuba diving. The thing was, he didn't even like scuba diving. His parents just dragged the family to the beach every year and not like he protested but this year was the final straw.
It was incredible. An amazing discovery. A breakthrough in the world of science. But he stood and wondered, "How can I get these unbelieving idiots to listen to what I have to say?"
They didn't want to deal with this. Ghosts, of all things. They didn't have time to worry about the souls of the deceased, they had other things to worry about. They didn't need this.
It was dark and he was scared and there were shadows. So many shadows. He knew it was stupid, that it wouldn't work, but he was desperate. Oh so very desperate. He had to fight back. He didn't want to die. So he grabbed the knife from the block and tossed it.
Empty words and threats and promises. She's heard it all, he's said them all. It wasn't a good thing, that she was so used to it. It wasn't a good thing that he kept on doing it. She never stopped him though, so he never stopped. It's just how they were.
She didn't know why she went along. She wasn't flexible, had terrible breathing habits. Yoga just wouldn't have been her thing. And yet here she was. Stretching her limbs in ways she found agonizing. Her friend better have been thankful that she was the best wingman ever.
Stubborn. Wayward. Disobedient. Undisciplined. He'd heard it all. None of it bothered him. He hated that they would say such things behind his back. Or attempt to, anyways. You'd think that from such "high class" people that they'd know more about discretion. And also come up with better "insults".
This was wrong. She didn't do anything. She wasn't capable of doing anything they had accused her of and yet, here she was. Wrongfully imprisoned in the worst place in the world. With no way out.
The stared over the edge, the fog covering everything below them. It was probably a stupid idea but they really didn't have any other choice. Either jump or be killed by whatever was chasing them through the forest. Oh well...
