But I had been outside not so long ago, not like these children of the compound who had never seen real sunlight or grass or felt the autumn breeze cool their faces. I didn’t understand what was happening when they trapped me in this underground box, but I so regret having allowed it now.

  6. Together they were so much better than apart; they had the potential to change the world. If only they could work together, but ironically what would have made them together so brilliant was the reason they couldn’t work together – they were to different, the potential was there but in reality the chances of them ever coming together as a team was hampered by their stubborn unwillingness to bend, break and change to accommodate one another.

  20. Do you know a compound adjective is? I surveyed the class before me, eyes brushing over the 4 neat rows of desks and faces before me.
    I am met with nothing, complete silence and utter confusion.
    …I don’t know what one is either…so I’m not sure what to say now….

  23. Compound is a generic, vague word; the precise meaning changes within the context. It’s not a noun that you can easily stick a label, nor is it a concrete verb that I, or anyone else, can just fling around. So, I’m sitting here trying to think of an example usage of “compound”, and I’m getting nothing. It’s just not there.

  29. A compound is a mixture of multiple things. Chemical compounds in your brain change the way you think and react to things. Compounds and chemicals are tricky beings and I don’t like them. Compound can also mean build upon. Compound interest happens at banks. Compounds are where people go to live during bad times. Religions have them sometimes.
