210 Entries for “lilies”

  1. White lillies in the pond, just lying there, floating gently. And it should have been a river, this reminder. Not a pond where the water was still and stagnant (like her death), but in a river moving swiftly and unstoppable. It was all about transitions here. For lillies represented death and that was enough, wasn’t it?

  2. He bought her lilies, white lilies because roses meant love and love scared her.

  3. Tiger lillies everywhere
    multiplying and overtaking the yard
I wish I could just snap my fingers and make them disappear

  4. hypnotizing-i’m simply hypnotized. its 8 o’ clock and i’m drunk again-trying to figure out who i am and where my life’s going. i don’t need anyone to take care of me. i am independent- and are far better off than others…especially those who are trying to tear me down. but not everyone’s trying to; so just want to join. be in my life. i want them to be in my life. i honestly do-smile, kid. you’re beautiful. don’t be ashamed of who you are, though. because at the end of the day, you are the one looking in the mirror. lillies-they make me smile. and i’m sure as hell the only one looking in the mirror right now. they can be any color they choose, and not give a damn, my dear.

  5. the cala lillies are brown and curled now but even in that state they bring a chill back to my spine at a glance. that first look at you in your suit and tie on that morning took my breath away…

  6. The smell is enough to send me soaring into pain, the odour akin to one of sewerage, the headiness more overpowering than the way coffee shops in Amsterdam take over your senses as soon as you open the door.

  7. I love spring and lillies are my favorite flower. The way they blow in the breeze letting off soft spurts of pollen makes me feel happy. They are a home to small bugs and they provide such a beautiful scenery to look at. Spring wouldn’t be spring without them.

  8. float. just float. some where else. just float. float up up and away. to a place so far off form here. float. swinging back and worth. no weight. close your eyes. and float. float on sleepy babe, float on.

  9. I always think of lillies as Easter flowers – White, fragrant, statuesque – not something that will grow in my garden but something I admire.

  10. i’m a daffodil, the golden yellow flower welcoming in the misty month of March. My beauty is only for one week, and afterwards I fade. The rest of the year, I am waiting, waiting to shoot my green stem up towards the sky and to peep out my beautiful self. A rose or a lily may forever be sweeter, and as a small daffodil I shy away for only being a one week beauty.

I’m sorry I cannot be more beautiful and make you more proud to stand by my side. Maybe I even bring shame when you’re seen with me. But I’ll always be just a daffodil, dressed up in sunny yellow, hoping to bring some cheer into your foggy dreams

  11. of the field, white and keening
    supple birthmark shadows
    that breathe perfume, infantbells
    like blown glass
    against untethered ghosts
wistful and tired after so much vacancy.
    Solomon sings of beauty
    while their silence
    sows scarred devotion,
    and hope that tastes
of a hungry dirt, to be satisfied.

  12. You wore lillies like most men wear button downs and cuff links.

  13. some people think they are a funeral flower, I used to buy them for the salon. My year 11’s bought them for me just recently and my mum thought they were from a man. Their scent fills a room and they open, ripen and decay on the one stem giving a gift that lasts for weeks. if I had enough money I would have a a house filled with lillies in various stages of bloom but as my old HOD used to say; think the flowers, don’t buy them; think them and give them to me in a thought. virtual flowes, no more than that, thought flowers.

  14. Lillies. At first, Annie was confused why would he send her lillies of the valley? But of course, it was another clue! To meet Tom in the valley near her house. What a wonderful meeting place and oh so clever as well. Annie felt good about the affair once again.

Should she turn and run the other way and look for a lilly field? Maybe…..let’s just take a nap here and dream about the right answer.

  18. I’m not quite sure what lillies look like. I’m assuming they are the white flowers that I am imagining. The ones that many people use in their weddings. They must be a special flower if they use them on what’s supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. I wonder what flowers I’m going to have at my wedding. I’m not the girl that’s imagined that day since I was little. I just want to meet the love of my life. The flowers don’t really matter.

  19. I think lillies are overrated flowers in literature. They’re used in a ridiculous amount of books as symbols, and yeah I get it they’re beautiful. Pick a different flower guys. There are far more interesting ones.

  20. The lilies were there in my Easter memories — at church, at the grocery store, in the florist’s window. They seemed to be a pure representation of what Easter was all about. So tall and proud and beautiful. I was never a lily.

    Carol Bailey Floyd
  21. The smell of the lily seeped toward my nose, creeping toward my brain and alerting me to the proximity of water. I closed my eyes and sniffed, walking closer to the flower. It had a small frog on it, poised to jump, but hesitant.

and later slipped her some pillies,

Poor Tim, he kissed a Billie

  24. I can’t picture a lily, nor can I smell one… But lily rhymes with chili and I’m hungry.

  25. There were thousands of lillies in the field, too many to count. I saw you in the distance, walking away from me, from us. The fact that you didn’t look back assured me that I didn’t have anything left to hang on to, and that you didn’t want me to come and stop you from going either.

  27. Listen to what the lillies have to say to you. They see you when you walk past them, don’t you know? They watch you as you walk down your sidewalk and through the neighborhood on your way to work. They know you. They know your stance and your life. They could have the answers if you let them talk.

  28. “Here.” He started, blushing. “I picked these for you.”

She looked up from her flowing brown hair, letting her mouth open slightly. They were beautiful. Petals white as pearls, lively green stems…there was droplets of water on them that sparkled in the sun. Nervously, she looked down at the grass and at the reflection of the sun on the lake in front of them. Now, he was stumped. Lightly, he touched her thin fingers, feeling a spark of heat.

“I got them because I love you.” Still, she said nothing. She turned her face away from him slightly, not sure what to do or say. Mainly, she didn’t want him to see how red her cheeks had become.

    Taylor Mirabile

  31. Lily of the valley.

That was my favorite song for years. I don’t remember when it changed. I just remember the Sabbath mornings where we’d stand with our faces to the sun, singing songs that seemed so very old, but so very special.

    Lilies.

    White. Pure. Simple.

    Peace.

How I miss it. How I miss you.

The way things were, the simplicity of the simple.

It’s all a mess these days. Such a horrid, wretched mess. Because somehow in looking for you, I guess I’ve managed to lose myself.

  32. She eased herself down slowly, letting her back sink down into the water, and dropped her head back. She could feel the lilies drifting in and out and around her hair. Inhaling deeply, she kept going. There was no turning back. And he would sit there, months later, wondering where she was now.

  33. Lilies immediately make me smile. Beautiful and spring time, beautiful and Easter, new beginnings. Yellow blossoms on long green stems along side the shed at home. Lilies of the Filed, the movie, was a movie we enjoyed at home. The message there was look at howl beautiful the lilies are and they don’t have to do anything to make themselves that way. They are just beautiful all by themselves.

    J O'Neill
  34. Lily of the valley is that beautiful flower, but it represents the more tragic side of life. Death is what it represents and we all think that is a tragedy. Yes, because you don’t rise from it. Necessary but devastating. There is only so much readiness you can have and it will never fully predict what will come in the future.

  35. Lillies mean nothing to me. I think about funerals. I think about all of the sadness that I haven’t yet had to endure in my life.

  38. The lilies in the field just blow with the soft wind. The two of us sat, holding hands in the serene paradise. The sun was setting and even though it was quiet, nothing needed to be said. Everything was just perfect.
