His mind, floating away from the conversation like a child's lost balloon among the clouds, stirring the unuttered longings of his soul.
He was bombarded by a montage of thoughts, all revolving around that one girl who always managed to stick to the inside of his brain like glue, no matter how often he tried to clear his mind. She was ubiquitous, and he could never be rid of her uncanny ability to leave a permanent impression on everyone she met.
He waltzes onto the set with a half-eaten bagel in one hand, a slightly crumpled script in the other. His gait pompous, his chin held at a haughty angle, with an entourage of admiring inferiors traipsing behind him.
She had a glorious habit of spewing out tall tales whenever silence capured the air. She loathed quiet, and splashed her stories of passion and courage and intrigue like paint throughout a conversation.
I was once a brilliant writer, a lord that gleefully conquered the written word.
She stirred after a painfully unsatisfying nap, one that seemed to drag on for the first few minutes but was interrupted at precisely the moment she began to drown into the comforts of sleep. Stirred, dazed, even agitated, she continued about her day with a sour expression.
Go forth and learn. Go sail away on the open sea and do not look back as the sliver of land behind you grows smaller and smaller. Have faith, go forth, and explore.
And so I lay on the bottom bunk in the cabin, petrified, hopelessly afraid. I waited for what seemed like an eternity until I just couldn't withstand the discomforting pressure in my bladder. So I fled the cabin, racing down the hill wearing my footie pajamas and wrapped in a Buzz Lightyear blanket.
Everyone has a crust. Some are flaky and easy to break. Others are incredibly resilient, so strong that it takes relentless perseverance to break through it. When you think about it, we're all pies, different flavors, different layers.
Shaking hands, kissing babies, waving hello. Plastic smile plastered to a plastic face. Expensive suit. Visiting parades. Raking in money but not bothering to invest in the community's best interests.
